I am a special education attorney, and Redwood is our go-to recommendation for students with specific learning disabilities like dyslexia or dyscalculia. I have seen my clients all the way from second grade through 12th grade even students who the school district believes will never learn to read make incredible progress working with Redwood. Moreover, the students I know who have worked with Redwood have regained their self-esteem and confidence in school (as measured by psychological tests) after working with Redwood, and I believe that is every bit as important for their future success as academic learning.
Redwood begins its service of each student with an in-depth evaluation, so that they can provide a clear roadmap of what the student needs to catch up and how they plan to get them there. This is critical to me as an attorney, but I know that parents love it, too, because they know exactly what to expect and can follow along closely with the progress their child is making.
In terms of personnel, I have personally worked with half a dozen different Redwood staff members across my various cases, and literally every single one is warm, responsive, and a joy to work with. THIS is the secret sauce that makes Redwood so great. Anywhere can (theoretically) provide staff with extensive training in teaching kids to read, but not everywhere has staff with the same deep empathy and genuine belief in students abilities that is part of the culture at Redwood.
The work that Redwood does not only teaches struggling students to read but also improves their confidence, stability, job prospects, and general well-being for the rest of their lives.
Redwood Literacy is truly experts at what they do, and I cant recommend them highly enough.
Redwood is amazing! Their teachers are highly trained in Wilson and they teach it with fidelity. Redwood teachers are compassionate and committed and they Taylor each lesson to meet your child’s individual needs. I’m a special education teacher myself with a M.A. but not trained in Wilson. My son is diagnosed with severe dyslexia and started at Redwood as a non reader in 8th grade in 2021 and is now in book 5 of Wilson! He’s reading and writing and his self esteem is soaring now. He is a Junior in H.S and because of Redwood, he will be able to take driver’s education class this summer, and take the written test. He’s planning on attending college when he graduates from high school and is so thankful that he’ll be able to do that. It’s always been a goal of his. Thank you Kait, Grace, Terri and Sophia!
Give your child the gift of reading and you give them the ability to be whatever they want to be.
Illiteracy is a crisis in our nation and a civil rights issue. Illiteracy is a pipeline to prison, homelessness, unemployment, and depression. Redwood is dreaming of and working toward a different future. Redwood provides an educational service, and they are so much more than that. They are also social justice advocates, focusing on the holes and inequity in our education system, leveling the playing field, and making it better for all. I’ve heard so many personal stories of Redwood students’ and families’ lives changed because of their experience with Redwood. The Redwood Team is highly trained, competent, and passionate intervention specialists. They’ve had wild success and are changing the course of young people’s lives and the future of our society. Beautiful and essential work!!
