I attended Relay Graduate School by means of a Chicago Public Schools partnership for an alternative teaching certification and master’s degree. As part of this program I was working as a diverse learner teacher in a Chicago Public School during my attendance. Relay did nothing to prepare me for the actual classroom experience, and is now a blight on my credit report.

The methods they taught were exercises in redundancy that I never saw practiced by my mentor teachers or colleagues in my workplaces. The classes were 100% virtual (even long after covid restrictions were lifted) which I believe took away from the experience. My first year professors left soon after I did. The training materials and videos were outdated.

On top of this, the price to attend this school was astronomical! I ended up paying out of pocket even with a small scholarship from CPS and Americorps. I ended up leaving the program and later was sent a collections notice for $9,000! (More than I actually owe.) It remains there to this day. I refuse to pay for an education I did not get.
