Both of my children have gone here, my oldest for three years. I’ve hung in there thinking that they deserved a chance to get it together because it’s a new school. I won’t be hanging in there any longer. The beginning of this year, they completely neglected to put my kids on their after care bus, and I had no idea until the after care called to see why they weren’t at school. Then, an office staff member proceeded to blame my 7 year old and blatantly insult her. “I have kindergarteners that answer when their name is called.”

Well I got passed that and moved on. Throughout the year though I would learn of school events very last minute. Spirit weeks and such. My kids can’t participate if I don’t have time to get what they need. Not everyone is a stay at home parent with time to do this stuff last minute. I also received almost no communication on what’s going on in class or homework assignments, or how much child is doing in class but continually heard from my daughter that she was kept out of recess for not finishing her school work. There are multiple apps plus email to keep in touch with the school, which is hard to keep track of and is extremely unorganized. I’ve sent messages and received no reply, wrote notes in my kids agenda and received no answer.
I’ve also had to pick my daughter up twice and keep her out of school all week. The office “nurse” says she has a fever and stomach ache. Both times she was picked up we took her temperature and her “fever” was exactly 99.4, a normal body temperature for a 5 year old. She is not sick. She come home and jumps and plays and laughs and knows very well that she got away with something. When I tried to tell the “nurse” that I was unable to pick her up she uses scare tactics. “Do I have your permission to call 911 if she starts seizing? It will be at your expense.” She says. I CAN NOT REITERATE ENOUGH, MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT EVEN SICK. “Her temperature is just RISING”. No ma’am, her temperature is 99.4, check your equipment.

They also called my e. Husband, who is not her father, and was supposed to be removed from their emergency contact records or year and a half ago. When I confronted her about that she said that his name was not on the emergency contact list but his number was. She proceeded to tell me that I needed to go on my parent dashboard to remove him entirely from the emergency contact list. Nobody said anything to me about this a year and a half ago. I went onto the website both from my phone and from a laptop to do so I logged into my parent dashboard and went to click on the emergency contact link but it directs me to the intent to return page. In fact, all of the links on that portion of the website did. So now I cannot remove my ex husband from their records.

In addition to all of this, the school Does a poor job of money management. They had a giant fundraiser the beginning of the school year and spent what they said was $12,000 on the outdoor movie theater screen, but every single week I am asked to bring in copy paper wet wipes and pencils and erasers. Does a poor job of money management. They had a giant fundraiser the beginning of the school year and spent what they said was $12,000 on the outdoor movie theater screen, but every single week I am asked to bring in copy paper wet wipes and pencils and erasers. It seems to me that basic school supply needs should be met before buying extravagant items that will be rarely used.

Like boats.

Disclaimer notice: I am not writing this because I was asked to nor am I writing this to make the school look good in the public’s eye. These are my own experiences and opinions so please don’t say this is a fake review because I’m not about childish games. So let’s start…

I’m going to say a few words about the negative comments. My daughter goes here this is her second yea She loves it, her teacher is amazing and she has made a lot of friends. She has issues that the teacher’s help her with a lot. She has improved a lot in the two school years she has been here. I love the teacher’s and the staff they are very friendly and understanding. My wife is also holds a position in the PTC and she loves it, has no complaints and is very friendly with everyone. Now, to the people who say negative things. If you notify the school ahead of time that your kid needs to be picked up for whatever reason then yes, you can pick up your child but if you don’t, well you simply can’t and the staff actually does do work in the front office. They don’t sit around and do nothing because they would lose their job. Plus, if they do let you pick up your child without notifying them ahead of time they get in trouble so it’s best to let them know days or week’s in advanced if your child needs to be picked up early. Second, they do notify everyone of things that are happening not just by emails but also Facebook. They literally say at the parent teacher meeting for the beginning of the school year before the first day of school and at every meeting during the school year that if you haven’t do so add their Facebook and check it regularly. Third and final part, they do give homework and projects. Just not every teacher gives out projects as much as other teacher’s. As far as the homework is concerned homework is done online through clever and the teacher’s give out a sheet every week that details what they are working on and specifies how much homework they need to do on clever each week for each subject.

Again this goes out to the negative comments and future negative comments. Please just pay attention to what’s really going on outside your life and if your child says they don’t have homework, talk to his teacher. Also to the comments that say they experienced racism… My wife and daughter is black and the staff is multi racial so please keep race out of it.

We have three children at RCCP and all of them are thriving! I could not believe it when our first grader read a chapter of a Harry Potter book to me and could answer all of the questions I asked her about it. RCCP is the only elementary school she has ever attended. We have children who naturally excel at school and who struggle, and RCCP has worked with us to make sure that the needs of all of our children are met. We have found staff to be very responsive the few times we have had a concern. Staff genuinely cares for every kid at school and it shows!

I volunteer in car line every day and can personally speak to the dismissal process that has been mentioned in previous reviews. The school makes it very clear that the office is closed from 2:30 – 3:45 to any outside needs, and that students can only be picked up through the standard dismissal process during that time. Those of us who volunteer are often let in the building because we are there for the purpose of aiding dismissal. The only other students I know of who are allowed to leave early through the office are those who are in the clinic whose parents have been called to pick them up. The front office is on call to help locate students for car line, manage the dismissals of van riders and ensure that every student safely gets where they need to be during that time. This is the reason for the closure of the office in the afternoons. Staff is very good about making sure that all procedures are followed for the safety of all students during dismissal.

I give RCCP a five star review not because it is perfect, but because I know the foundation is there to be a great school. We moved to Florida a little over two years ago, not knowing much about the school system here and were thankful to find this charter opening up next to us when our kids did not like the public school they had been assigned to. I had never intended to get super involved with the school, but have now gone from parent to PTC President and will now be resuming my previous career as a teacher in the coming school year. RCCP is what we make it, and with the team currently in place, I believe it will be something truly amazing!
