I started Richfield High School in 2007 and graduated 2 years ago. I think this high school is very good considering you can get more credit than you need for college and there is such a great diversity of students. The various clubs and activities are just welcoming and the students are passionate in them. There’s so many clubs like pottery, film editing, Free Tibet, mindsong, etc. The sport teams are terrific and the coaches are just lovely to be around! The teachers there are very relatable and very supportive if you need it. There’s the CIS opinion, college in school! You can work on college material in RHS. The books there are updated and the technology overall is very recent. The classmates I were with were mostly friendly except once in awhile the police have to visit the school but nothing is perfect! A personal favorite is that it’s a few minutes away from McDonald’s, and juniors & seniors are free to leave the campus during lunch. I also enjoyed the diverse gym class selections such as: weight training/team sports, volleyball/self-defense, basketball/yoga, or soccer/cardio. I highly recommend this school other than Jefferson or Kennedy because the spirit in the school is lively and I think teens overall with enjoy this school. I’m now a freshmen at Penn State University studying for my neuroscience major and I’m glad I went to this school! Spartan Pride!
My daughter spent a good share of her elementary and middle school years at the best schools I could find for her, but they werent the best for my kid. I do have to hand it to RHS though: my daughter is happy here.
RHS does get a bad rap, and some of it is warranted. There are some teachers there who do set the bar pretty low for certain minority students, but if you stay on them consistently and are involved, they wont try it…They know youre watching. Unfortunately some parents arent able to do that. However, there are teachers really do care about the students, and they are equipped to handle challenges that Edina and Bloomington Jefferson arent equipped to deal with. Its a diverse school, and many of the kids are all in the same boat.
Like with any school, the more involved you are, the better the outcome will be. This is especially the case in schools like RHS
Richfield has been going down hill for awhile now. It starts with superintendent and principal who seem to have no soul or care in the world for the Richfield community. Graduation rates, GPA as well as enrollment has all dropped in the last recent years. They have not shown any sign of change or growth it is very embarrassing. As a Richfield alumni I demand better for the future of our world and it starts with proper education.
