I recently had the most horrifying experience with R J Henley! I emailed them a copy of my child’s scholarship and the deadline was on August 3, and I sent the scholarship to them July 31. Mrs, Campbell had 3 days to process it, she just played Russian roulette with my child’s scholarship and let it expire! How much time does one need to put in a few numbers? She didn’t even need the scholarship, all she needed was number on the scholarship, and she had the nerve to tell me that she
had came into the school over the weekend for something else but, not to process my daughter’s scholarship!!!!!!!! She knew Monday August 3, was the last day and, did absolutely nothing about it. The day I emailed the scholarship, I contacted Mrs. Robinson, the elementary principal the moment I sent it. I don’t understand what’s going on with those people. They were both fully aware of the deadline and it’s like they don’t even care how this has affected my child and me. Days before I made one of the most biggest mistakes of my life by sending my child’s scholarship to this school. I contacted the scholarship organization to ask for a a few days extension for the scholarship to be processed. The extension was not guaranteed so, the lady told me if R J Henley was the school I was going to choose then they should go on and process the scholarship and this was the very thing I told Mrs Campbell and, this woman still did not process it. She even had the nerve to tell me she had processed 5 other children’s scholarships but not my child’s. She said I thought you told me you had an extension. I could have literally died! I said why would you wait if you had the scholarship for 3 whole days. Why would you gamble with something as important as that even if you thought I had an extension, why in God’s name would you do something like that!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s like she just threw her scholarship out the window!!! Mrs. Campbell didn’t even have the decency to notify me that she had let my daughter’s scholarship expire. I found out by calling her on August 6, when I faxed over my child’s report card to the school and then called her to ask had she received it. Then she had the nerve to say I tried putting in your daughter’s award number and it’s not working. I could have died when she said this to me!!! I said Mrs. Campbell, when did you put it in? Please tell me you are not just processing the scholarship. Then she had the nerve to tell me to call the scholarship organization and see what’s going on when I am sure she already knew what they were going to say. They told me my child’s scholarship had expired. I won’t even tell you what was going through my head at the time because it was not pretty. I had to ask God to forgive me for what I was thinking. I recalled even telling Mrs. Robinson to have Mrs. Campbell to call the scholarship organization to check on the extension because they told me that only admissions can retrieve this information but, the thing is this, she didn’t need an extension to begin with because she had the scholarship from July 31, until August 3. The first time I spoke to Mrs. Robinson she asked me why did my child leave the school she was at before, and I told her for bullying issues. I called her the following week and she asked me the same thing over again and, I told her, you have asked me this already and she said no it must have been Mrs.Campbell, I said no, it was you because Mrs. Campbell never asked me anything like that. I called and spoke to Mrs.Henley, I guess she is over the school. When I spoke to Mrs. Henley and, explained what had happened, I told her how upset I was that Mrs. Campbell just let my child’s scholarship expire and, how long Mrs. Campbell had the scholarship. Mrs. Henley said that maybe it took a while for Mrs. Campbell to receive the scholarship. I said, it only takes a few minutes to receive and email so, how did it take a while for her to receive it and, what does she consider a while? It’s like she was covering up for Mrs.Campbell. I didn’t even get an apology. Disgusting!!!
I was class of 98, looking back I can still remember my teachers and the weight of their positive impact on my life. I didn’t have the best home life growing up, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Crockett, Mr. Mackenzie, and Mr. Weatherby (I believe that’s how you spell it) saw right through all of that and Pushed and challenged me to do my very best despite circumstances. Today I’m a hair away from being a millionaire from my career in tech, A combat veteran and currently concluding my bachelors at the historic Morehouse College. It was by each of them being paragon of black excellence in education that I can even come back and say, “Thank you!!!”.
If that is still true about the schools spirit, This school will make a leader out of your kids. RJ Hendley or Greater bethel Christian as it was called when I attended made a leader out of me. Every boy and girl is one caring adult away from becoming a success story. The staff understood that.
