I really enjoy going here. I am a graduating senior of class 2018 and have gone to Turner for all four years of my high school experience. My freshman year, I traveled to Pearland to play basketball, but soon left to pursue taking more college classes. Traveling was interesting, as it allowed me to have an extra twenty minutes each day while I waited for classes to switch at Turner to study, but because of the block scheduling at Turner I had to give up two classes at Turner to play every day at Pearland.

I really enjoy that I am able to take dual credit classes at this school. I was also able to take some AP courses, and, in my opinion, the dual credit courses were a lot less stressful than the AP courses. Since college courses aren’t based around getting college credit based off of a test and are based off of passing the class, they’re a lot easier to study for and prepare for. I also feel more prepared for college since I have taken actual college courses and not an AP course that is taught by a high school teacher. The only downside is that the GPA for a dual credit class is 5.0 while AP classes are 6.0. The GPA thing does not really matter much, as colleges look at your unweighted GPA, not the weighted 6.0 scale.

The administration is something worth taking note of. We recently got new assistant principals and a new principal because Dr. Marrow was not the best administrator. She was very controlling and stubborn, but the new principal is very helpful and kind. The counselors are alright too, they tend to be very disorganized but will try to make up for their mistakes and give you the best schedule that you can have. Mrs. Suggs is the best, she is the registrar and will get everything taken care of straightaway.

Another thing that makes this school stand out, is the pathway. Turner allows students to take courses geared toward what career they would like to have later in life. I am on the engineering pathway and have learned how to use the computer software, lots of math formulas, and civil engineering. For my senior year, I was required to find an internship in my pathway and this is beneficial as I am able to learn how working in the engineering field works.

For students: the school is small and is white dominant, teachers can be really distracted sometimes. Some of them have not taught before so it might take them awhile to settle down. Experienced teachers think they are the principle of the school so watch out. Half of the teachers are easy going, but the other half are strict and misleading. You will be lucky if you have Mr. Dudas and Ms. Washington, they are by far the most opened and straight forward teachers. Don’t fool around, the school is for students who want to attend college after high school and you should be ready to turn in work on time. Especially for college classes, if you miss the deadline then you get a zero. You can’t complain or bring up an excuse, professors are there to teach you not to baby sit you.

For parents: I’d recommend the school for freshmen and sophomores, if you are a junior or a senior you should take online classes instead. The reason I say this is because junior and senior classes are small, it barely surpasses the 150 student mark. Freshmen and sophomore cover most of the school, so if you want to be in the top 10 percent its going to easier if you have more students. You should tell your children in advance that the school is based on academic competition, the person who has the highest rank wins. Not the football star or volleyball player of the week. You should enroll in the school if you are not interested in sports, instead you are interested in clubs. The school offers different clubs which suits most of the students, and after all it is only beneficial when applying for colleges. There are scholarships you can apply for when attending Turner, that way you can save cash. At last, parents, be responsible of your children’s acts in school. There have been some unspoken things about the school. Caucasians tend to think of themselves superior in the school, some even have the confederate flag outside of their cars in the school’s parking lot. Please be aware that racism is not a regular thing in the school, but it still happens from time to time.

I’ve gone to Turner for three years going on my fourth and if you are thinking about sending your child, DONT yeah its a small school and it seems nice but don’t send them here. the classes are longer and its getting to crowded for everyone. The teachers are cool once you get to know them but the new teachers can’t handle the classes and the experienced teachers act like they run the school. And if your child is sports or arts inclined definatly don’t send them hear because it does nothing to grow in there talents.
