I loved rocky beach up until i graduated, it was amazing, the teachers were great, the students were kind. But now my younger sister is there and under the new principal, Ms Duffy the school has gone from a lively, colourful engaging place to learn to a grey slate. The aboriginal garden has been destroyed and pained grey, the decorations in the library are gone, old well loved teachers are leaving, the murals and art that lined the halls are gone because Principal Duffy wishes for a blank slate of a school to wrench into a grey waste land dedicated to eradicating any joy that was left in school. She even got rid of the garden which a well loved teacher dedicated so much time to.
My honest opinion is that the school would benefit from any other principal other than Denise Duffy
I graduated from Rocky Beach as Dux (admittedly not such an achievement at that age) almost 4 years ago, back when it was under the care of Jacqui O’Donnell, and let me tell you, that was the time of my life. The teachers were incredibly supportive and made everything fun. Everything was well maintained and there were many hands on experiences. That has all gone down the drain with the new principal, Denise Duffy.
She actively removes art that school kids have created and various fun, educating things around the school. While I was there, I helped to paint a mural and build a Castaways sculpture, both of which have since been removed. Even gardens, things that, while you may not like them, contribute to the experience and can teach important life lessons, have been removed. Many people are leaving, students and teachers alike, the vast majority because of the way Denise runs things. If I still attended, I would leave too.
While I understand change can be good, you don’t get rid of the good things if you are truely seeking to improve things. I would love to see the school return to the level it once was.
Trash school so many fights. I hate this school mad me want to die.
