My daughter is a sophomore, this is her second year. She really likes it. We are SDA (Seventh-day Adventist), not all students are but that is part of why I like it. It reflects a little more of what the real world looks like – people of different backgrounds, class and cultures. Academically, teachers in the high school all have Master’s and they offer AP classes starting from freshman year. Socially, kids reflects what is in the home. You meet every type of student. Some are driven and reflect the values of the school, others are there and the school serves as a ministry to them. I think it is large enough to offer something to everyone, from academics, music, sports, to leadership. I would recommend this school if your values align with its mission, regardless of your background.
The students were alright I guess, but with so few students a lot super sheltered and the rest were quite rude. Teachers were the worst I’ve ever had, they were nice but didn’t know how to teach at all. Math teacher used a program that worked so badly I had to teach myself a year of Math after I’d left. If you’re rich and have sheltered kids that will grow up to be pastors and housewives this school is perfect. However, if you’re working class and have non-Adventist parents I’d highly encourage not to attend.
Merit scholars. Naval Academy graduates. Physicians. Lawyers. Ministers. Teachers. And more. SAA graduates are making their mark. SAA has been a fantastic environment for our three children (2008 to 2022)–rigorous academics, community service-oriented programs, a dynamic music program, and a vastly improved and growing athletic program, all in a smaller school, Christian setting, with reasonable tuition. If a private Christian school is something you are considering, I highly recommend you check SAA out.
