My son started in preschool and graduated from the high school in 2011, attending Berklee College of Music thereafter, well prepared by the curriculum and teachers, especially with its focus on music. My daughter attended from preschool through eighth grade. We found the emphasis on critical thinking, practical application ( including handwork, art, and music), and outdoor exploration a welcome change from other local schools and a significant contributor to their growth as fully developed humans. The small size and continuity of teacher staff allow each child to learn on his/her individual level with a feeling of family. The focus on the natural world and imagination while attempting to minimize the forces of media during the early years is a powerful and laudable emphasis on child development. The campus is lovely, the sports programs strong, parental and community involvement open and embracing, and our whole family greatly benefited from the education we all received.
I recently explored SFWS for a high school option for my children. I was familiar with the Waldorf model but quickly learned there was much I didnt know. This school brings such a wealth of opportunity to the kids- the academics on the high school level rival any college prep school out there. And perhaps, even go a step further in the way those academics get integrated and explored on a wholistic level. The staff has really impressed me with their breadth of knowledge, passion for each individual student, and progressive attitude towards education in todays age. My only wish is that I would have looked at this school at an earlier age for my children. What shaping years they could have experienced there had I known. At any rate, I am truly looking forward to watching my children thrive in their high school years here.
Waldorf saved my child! We struggled through public school for a couple of years while my daughter’s self-esteem as a learner slowly disappeared. We looked at everything in town and found that Waldorf was an amazing fit. The children who receive a Waldorf education have so many ways to be successful learners. There are all the traditional academics as well as art, music, cooking, gardening, outdoor education/wilderness experiences, athletics, woodworking, and plenty of outside time on the beautiful campus. We have been very happy here for 3 years now and plan to stay through high school!
