As a student i have had to deal with harassement from staff making extreme personal attacks and cussing at me, other students have also dealt with similar situations with staff being unprofessional. Besides that the lessons here lack student engagement in class as well as learning critical thinking skills that are fluid, self advocacy, and independence, instead they teach to coform, to put up with your lot in life. Even if you are so beyond mentally exhausted from how much you’re trying to juggle they could not care less and will make you feel terrible about it. For example they will tell you that you lack productivity and are lazy when you simply lack time management skills and motivation. Something common for people with ASD and ADHD. I am tired of being talked down to and receiving zero solutions and instead personal attacks when i just want help myself and to better SVA’s program.
I beg you please do not send your child here. Not until things get better with the help of students.
UPDATE: i have been discharged. Shocking
ScenicView is one of the very few schools in the entire world that specializes in serving ADULTS with autism and related conditions and not only helps them learn skills in ALL areas to become successfully independent, but will also only charge people what they can afford for those amazing services. I have personally seen how ScenicView changes lives; have seen how much the staff really care; have seen the level of expertise in their teachers, therapists, employment and residential specialists; and my proverbial hat is off to them. Go take a tour if you have a child with “failure to launch” syndrome. There’s no better place.
They will teach you independent living at the cost of independent thinking and standing up for yourself. Trust me I am a student here and have been slandered by a staff member in a public area there.
On 24 September 2016 a staff member accused me of stealing because they wanted me to pay for their own error and I refused. Maybe if you’re okay with being indoctrinated in a single-minded, homogeneous community this place is for you. However if you are not okay with being forced to pay for staff mistakes then this is NOT the place for you.
