To start, you dont need to go to school to be a dental assistant in Washington state BUT going to school and learning things is a huge help and makes you feel more confident in your skills. Our instructor, Kayley, was so amazing and kind and a wonderful teacher. She always goes out of her way to help you with whatever you need. The other instructors not so much. There is a lot of time in the in person classes where you are just waiting in a line do a certain activity. There is a lot of standing around waiting, or reviewing notes because theres nothing else to do while you are waiting. About 50 percent of class time is spent waiting. The module videos are god awful. They are made by one girl who acts as if her target audience is preschoolers. We are adults who paid 4000 to learn. More mature and educational videos would be better. The textbook is nice, lots of information that is explained clearly. The quizzes at the end of each module suck, they are filled with trick questions. Trick questions dont help you learn they just confuse you more and frustrate you. Questions that are well worded and have a clear right answer would be better for learning. It is nice that the CPR/BLS certification is included in our program. You are not allowed to contact your instructors to ask about any questions you have or anything about the in person classes, which is extremely frustrating. A canvas chat room/discussion with our instructors would be extremely helpful. The in person lab portion of the class was extremely helpful. Overall I did really benefit from this program but the awful videos, confusing quizzes and inefficient time management makes me personally believe its not worth $4000. Also Kayley should get a raise.
I wouldn’t have been where I am now without going to this school! I was at first skeptical about going here because heck, last time I’ve been in school was 16 years ago and I didn’t think my brain could have function the same as before when I was younger! But Courtney gave me kind words and told me I can do it, no matter what age. They do a walk through tour of the school and sit down and talk to you to make sure it’s something you definitely want to do. It is a 12 week program but once I completed I was still able to go back to the school and do some more hands on training which was really nice.
The instructors I had were Courtney and Brittany. They were both awesome! Thanks to Brittany for helping me find a place to do my internship at. Wouldn’t have asked for any other instructors. You two are the best!
Would definitely recommend going here if you’re really interested in becoming a Dental Assistant in just 3 months!
NSDA has been an educational experience like no other. I was used to heavy lecture content in college, but this programs curriculum has been so refreshing. This school is very focused on giving you a well thought out, holistic dental assistant education. I was taught and was given constructive feedback on the essential hands on skills needed to be a successful dental assistant. The instructors are kind, encouraging of new growth, and genuinely care about your experience here. Would recommend to anyone looking to step into the dental field!
