In this NYC world of high priced private schools, aggressive charter schools, overcrowded public schools, the School of the Blessed Sacrament is a hidden gem on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It is It is a Pre-K3 through 8th Grade Catholic elementary school. This school truly celebrates diversity and strong ethical values. We have students from all over Manhattan and the outer boroughs. The faculty teach with kindness and care, aiming to foster Christian leadership, individual responsibility and service to those in our community and beyond.

I personally feel that it is important to not just raise children to achieve great test scores and high grades but to help them become complete human beings. Blessed Sacrament has a rigorous curriculum and has achieved test scores competitive with other top Manhattan schools. However, SBS distinguishes itself from other schools as the students are all raised to become responsible members of the community. They are taught to embrace responsibility, how to respect and care for others and how to respect and care for themselves.

In this crazy world where all of life is getting played out on social media and other technology outlets, it is a welcome change to take my children to a school that in nurturing them as a person. They are taught values that mirror what I teach in the home. The parent population is strong as a community, along with the high-quality teaching staff.

I am proud to call Blessed Sacrament home for my two children for the last 3 years (starting PK4 through now 4th grade).

While it tries to be very community based it fails in other areas. In my opinion your only paying for the uniform. They do teach Catholic values which I did love. They have no air conditioning and in the summer months it gets hot, in my opinion not a comfortable learning environment for children with these uniforms on. While you do get your exercise in for walking those stairs, based on the grade you go to the higher floors. (no thanks) They have a huge turnover that they don’t really know how to explain.I will admit they do have wonderful events for the kids when it comes to holiday months(thats why i gave it one more star). Another concern was the lack of diversity in the younger student body such as PK3,4 and Kindergarten. They need to make it accessible to all families from all backgrounds. This is the main issue on the Upper Westside. The lack of diversity needs to start with the younger groups. The kids do not go out because there is no playground so they are in the building all day except Fridays. My daughter was bored, she had learned all material prior in Nursery School. The specials are just regular classes you would get in a public school. At the end, we left with a big happy face being accepted into a wonderful public school on the upper westside and my daughter is thriving, learning and its a comfortable learning environment.
