As a student that went to School of the Incarnation for nine years, the experience was interesting to say the least. In my fourth grade year, we brought in new administration. I recall feeling almost as if every situation was always blown out of proportion. One of these experiences being somebody accidentally at lunch must’ve hit a member of our administration with a piece of food when throwing it away. Two tables had to sit inside for recess because nobody knew who had been responsible. Ridiculous. I made good friends there and the students are extremely nice and we all became a great family. Many of the elementary school teachers are wonderful and encouraging. However, there were only a few teachers that stood out to me positively and supported me in middle school. I felt like the rest of the staff could have really cared less about who I was and my fellow students’ and I’s feelings and needs. The iPad program that they offer with the middle school department sounds wonderful in theory, but it’s actually quite ridiculous with the restrictions and as I recall many of the teachers were completely clueless on how to use it. How they actually get the money for the iPads is even more ludicrous. I remember having to send letters to my relatives begging them for money instead of doing a fundraiser like family funday or the eighth grade car wash. Many teachers (some who still teacher there) were extremely disconnected and condescending with their students. I remember coming home crying because I wasn’t able to finish a sixth grade science test and therefore received a failing grade for the class. All in all, my time there was the reason I switched over to Annapolis High School’s PVA Program.

I am writing this review as a student who has attended School of the Incarnation from 1st-8th grade. Throughout my time at this school, I had many experiences. Sadly, most were frustrating and ended in feeling defeated. I would like to start off by talking about the guidance counselor. Whenever I was pulled into her office, I felt belittled and ignored. The feeling of belittlement did not stop there. The administration has also made students feel disrespected and childish. I understand that the students are children, but they should still be given some responsibility. I believe if they treat students like they are immature that is how they will act. They need to give students a voice and more responsibility to prepare them for the future. As the years went on, I started to notice a disconnect between some of the teachers and the students. There are a few brilliant teachers but they are becoming rarer. It has also been a revolving door of teachers in some departments. It seems as if there is a different teacher each year. All of that being said, I did have some good experiences. Most of them I attribute to the students. Most of them are friendly and welcoming people. I have met some of my best friends here. They are the only reason why I did not leave.

Fantastic school! We are new this year, and our kids have had a wonderful experience. The teachers are so kind, and the staff has done such an impressive job under stressful circumstances [edit: this was initially posted in the 2020 – 2021 school year during COVID-19 closures]. Five stars!

Updated review (2022): Updating my post after 2 full years of school and summer camp attendance. I can’t say enough great things about the school! The administration, teachers, and teachers’ aides are all amazing. We were drawn to the after-school program offerings before moving to the area, and they did not disappoint! From before-school care, through the school day, after-school program, and club activities, we have had nothing but great experiences around the clock. The summer camp offerings are also excellent, with options available for all grade levels.
