This school has been a completely different experience than what we encountered with the local public schools. My son is challenging and is “all boy.” For those of you who are around children understand what I mean by “all boy.” Since we have enrolled my son at SCVi he has had a different outlook on his education. He actually wants to go to school and is growing! He is enouraged to discuss content and interact with the children and peers. He is challenged with responsibilities and required to be held accountable. I feel he is getting more life preparedness from this school than the public school. The facilitators and leadership team are amazing! They are dedicated to work with parents and to help the children grow, I must add extremely PATIENT. 🙂 I truly feel they strive to allow each child success. Children learn differently and sometimes require more than just a packet of paperwork to do while siting at a desk. SCVi is that place. I am not saying it is perfect and there are somethings that I would like to see changed and improved. The nice thing is the entire team is open to discuss my thoughts and ideas and I believe they will only continue to get better. The other major perk at this school is they not only teach academics but they also educate on physcial and emotional education as well. The tools needed for a child to grow up and be a successful “good” citizen, good person, however you want to say it. It is just fantastic life skills everyone needs to be equipped with to succeed and live in our world today.
Many parents and other teachers told me several negative facts about SCVi when it became known I was moving my child there. Everything that I heard negative has NOT been true AT ALL! My advice would be to go and observe more than once, hang out see how they do things, and ask questions I mean talk with the children there. You will be impressed. Do not pass judgment if you go on one tour because it very different than a traditional public school setting. If you take the time to watch and evaluate you will see the tremendous opportunity for growth the children there have. You have to have an open mind as a parent and be willing to break away from the norm. It has been difficult for me at times but I feel like my son is at the right school.
I am thrilled that we have a school like this local. Thank you to the entire team at SCVi for providing a great education for my child.
I came across SCVi by accident on Spring while looking for summer camps for our 2 children. I noticed the camp was being held at the SCVi campus and was curious to learn more about the school. The philosophy was inline with what my husband and I had been talking about as we watched our children grow and learn in very different ways. We felt uncomfortable in the boxed learning style that was being offered and what we both suffered through. Discovering the school came at the perfect time as we were considering a move outside of the city. I sent in our application, received an immediate reply, and both of our kids filled the last slots in their grade level. We moved that summer and now wrapping up our first year at SCVi. It has been an adjustment in learning style for 1 of our kids who is less self motivated than the other and also adjusting to a new community and school from all that they have ever know. The facilitators, leadership, administration, and many parents have offered so much support above and beyond the call of duty. The school really cares about all of the kids but more importantly for us, we really felt the care for our children with their particular needs in social, emotional, & intellectual development. I have a better handle on how to support our children next year as the program really involves partnership between the facilitators, parents, and students. It’s really important that families are aware that if you’re coming from a traditional learning environment that your children will benefit from the program the most when you are actively involved with the facilitators (teachers) and support the learning at home along with them. It’s really co-creating the best learning experience for your child to ensure their lifelong success and help them perform to a level to get into any college that they choose. SCVi and the iLead program promotes leadership in not just the students but staff and families. If you’re looking for the “perfect” program for your children, you won’t be able to find it – anywhere.
We are a long time family of SCVi in Santa Clarita; my kids have attended for 9 years now and are graduating in a month. While I truly believe there is no perfect school, SCVi comes pretty darn close for us. It has allowed our kids (3 of them – all very different in learning styles) to flourish in their own strengths, while being supported and nurtured by an incredible staff of facilitators and educators. I am so grateful to them for providing a safe and exciting environment for my kids to learn and grow into the independent young adults they now are. All of my kids needed a little something different – they are all dynamic individuals who are carving their own paths; SCVi was able to hone in on their personal strengths and challenges – and cultivate a personalized learning plan for each of them, all the while stimulating them across the board with a variety of art, sports and multi-cultural opportunities. I would do it all over again, too – SCVi has been an incredible blessing in our lives!
