My recent experience with SBUM School in Kingwood was highly disappointing. I had an admissions interview with Kevin Puckett, which quickly went downhill. From the start, I felt unwelcome, and this unease persisted throughout the interview.
Kevin skipped over providing any information about the school and instead jumped into intrusive questions about my family situation, focusing on the absence of my child’s other parent. He emphasized that their school model is designed for two-parent households, citing biblical teachings on marriage. This approach was a complete turn-off.
When I asked if only married couples in two-parent households could be part of their congregation, Kevin kept repeating the same vague answer, almost robotically. It was frustrating and off-putting.
I ended the interview prematurely due to the discomfort both my child and I felt. Kevins attempt to make us feel inadequate left a bad taste in my mouth. We quickly thanked him and left. The positive reviews for this school are misleading; we are relieved to have avoided a place that made us feel so unwelcome and undervalued, especially considering the tuition investment required.
It’s alarming that this organization has several schools across Houston but only eight high school graduates. My questions during the open house, online communication, and in-person interview went unanswered. Avoid SBUM School at all costs. Take your child and your financial investment somewhere they will be truly valued.
Disgusted.
