Shoemaker is a good school. It has great clubs ,and the most AP enrolled students in the district. They also have the most students that have been accepted into major universities(engineering majors). The school has won many awards in robotics. The last physics AP teacher was offered a job at Harvard University. Many of the math and science teachers have worked as professors at Universities. My son attend for four years , and never got into a fight , had many friends and has been accepted into a major Texas University as an engineering major (with scholarships). So, bottom line is any school is what you make it , if you are in school just to socialize and you are not comfortable with the minority of the school being blacks and Hispanics then , you may have problems’. But, if you want a good education (especially in math and science) and don’t mind the “diversity” then you will be fine.
I was here for half a year freshman year. Between fights, drama, and a majority of teachers not, doing much to stop students from doing whatever they want, I had a mental break down and ended up doing online school. Some teachers were amazing, very few staff were most just had attitudes. Restricted the wrong rules at the wrong time, leeway over the wrong things such as phones ok to use in class but bathroom breaks numbered per classroom rather than per student? This was 2014ish. If they got their act together by now I’ll be super surprised.
This HS makes you feel that they DO NOT want students to come here. The Ladies at the Registrar Office have an attitude, not friendly at all. They get your papers and tell you to go sit outside and wait until they call you again. After 1 1/2 hour, I’m scared to go back to ask them how long it will take for them to review our paperwork. So sad, this HS is so different from Harker Heights HS, over there everyone is willing to help and have a smile on their face.
