For the 9 years I’ve attended this, I’ve rather despised it with a burning passion. Sure, technically this school is “diverse”, but the majority is literally racist Caucasian kids, belligerent African-American kids, and the rest are Mexican kids that are either of the two. If your child are not of those three ethnicities, I guarantee they will be at the bottom of the social pyramid, unless you have the ability to make friends fast. I mean, the punishments given out for racial discrimination in Sitting Bull are unsurprisingly lacking compared to the essential disciplinary action standard that is merited to racial issues. Sitting Bull should also consider being more LGBT+ friendly. Most LGBT+ students are closeted, and school is a safe haven to at least open up about these kinds of things, but teachers judging and looking down on them for simply having a different romantic orientation makes it very hard to do that. The reason Advisory was made was to make kids feel a sense of unity with one another and their teacher. We should be able to talk about any of our problems whether it be about a homoromantic relationship in school, considering coming out to your parents, or anything in between. I also believe Mrs. Clarke, the school secretary, was unaware that she would be interacting with adolescents throughout her secretarial career. Though my observation may not be true, she conducts the attitude that convinces me otherwise. Previously being both an office aid and a student serving detention, it seems like she hates her life and everything in it. Mrs. Carol talks nicer to her grandchildren than she herself does. I digress, it is pretty ok for a public school in the High Desert, academically it is loaded with great programs for your child but socially there is a lot of problems, that you can’t fix with cheesy assemblies that would have a lasting impression of about 3 days I’d wager…
I love this school! We moved from one of the top five school districts in the state and Sitting Bull is better than my son’s former school. There is free tutoring available every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon for those students who need extra help or have to catch up on assignments. Teachers work together to support the learning of all the children. They are open to special accommodations for those who have different needs. Everyone with whom I have interacted has been professional and pleasant. The school site is always clean and in condition. I’m really glad we moved here.!
School is good if you make them enforce their own policies. Teachers like Mrs. Blake, shouldn’t be teaching kids with learning disabilities, she doesn’t have the heart or patience for them to ACTUALLY succeed in school. If your kid isn’t athletic or is over weight, make sure they don’t get Mrs. Cushman, she’ll make their school year horrible. She’s extremely rude to the kids in front of their classmates.
