This school is ridiculous! There is absolutely no communication between teachers-parents, the staff is lost, and the teachers give the kids an incredible amount of homework. My child has had so many problems in the time she has been there. No matter how hard she works to get ahead there’s always something bringing down her grades for example; a 50 page winter break packet that i refused to allow my child to do while we where on vacation. The teacher ridiculed my child because I sent a letter explaining why she didn’t complete it. All these kids wipe their a** and do what they want in class. These kids spend hours on their phones while the teachers sit in class and don’t do anything then they want to overload them with homework. Last year, my child was getting harassed by another student and when I went into the office the counselor said “I’ve already spoke with your child regarding this” my response “why wouldn’t the school contact me?” It’s because they want to brush all the issues underneath the rug so no one will find out what a trashy school they are. My daughter has had enough and asked me to withdraw her from school. I went in with all the paperwork and asked for an early dismissal. They informed me that it takes 24 hours for a withdrawal (which I have never heard of) and refused to dismiss my child from class because it was afer 2:15pm when their student aid went to process the dismissal. I was already so upset that I ended up taking my child anyways. Shorty after, I received a call from the principal advising ne that she suspended my child for skipping school. This school is a piece of s***. I don’t recommend it to any parent unless you want your kid to go to s*** and be depressed and ridiculed by teachers.
So my older daughter was a student there a few years back. 6th grade stressed me a bit. Lots of Homework. For that age I feel its a bit much. Definitely prepped her up for Mast which gives her more. So as a parent we see our kids completely stressed out and crying sometimes. Some get depressed. I have seen many things going on with kids. I personally loved the school and all the administrators. I am thankful for the administrators who have helped her with her dream school. She was able to go to John Hopkins University and stay in the dorms summer 9th grade year. She earned 2 college credits. Some of the teachers shared her info about her gofundme we had to set up to pay for the medical program. There was 1 teacher who was a bit much though. Not sure if she is still there. She was a bit too personal and out spoken in front of the kids. The kids there do curse alot. She did complain about the food not being that good. As far as the uniforms. The shoe uniform rule of all black is outrageous. I feel it should be no lights or certain things on shoes. Not the all black. My daughter is in 11th grade at mast now. I am hoping my little girl can go to somerset sash. Her older sister left a good reputation. If you have a issues they are willing to help. If your child is struggling with work. Speak to admissions and be assertive. I got extra helo for my child from there. I was going to put a 4 start but the shoes rules is definitely not a reason to give the school 4 star. Its beautiful inside too. Clean.
To be honest, if you say that the teachers give the kids a ridiculous amount of homework and that your child is behind.. then your child is the problem, not the school. I go here, and we do get quite some homework, but I can keep up. The education is high quality, and the homework is a good amount to where you shouldn’t be falling behind. Everything is good besides two factors: Food, Uniform Policy. Hear me out on the uniform policy thing.. : Uniforms I think are a good way to go considering the fact that you don’t have to search for a new outfit everyday, though I think there should be less of a strict thing against shoes. They make you wear all black shoes, and when you have a tad of another color you have to wear these ‘beautiful’ shoes in the office. And the food: it’s not that great, but they do have vending machines. So either pack a lunch or bring money. One more complaint: Cursing continuously going on in the halls and rooms, it’s annoying and bothersome. Overall, a pretty good/an okay school.
