We happened upon Sonnets WL when I was pregnant with my first, 4 years ago. Sonnets had come highly recommended, but was one of many recommended daycare centers we toured. The second I set foot into the building I knew this was the place for my son. The teachers seemed happy (and had long tenures), the children were engaged (and magically cleaning up toys without complaint), and the directors were informative and enthusiastic.

We started at Sonnets officially when our son was 3 months old and have had nothing short of the best experience. Every teacher and room he has been in has helped shaped him into a smart, funny, confident, and caring young boy. They helped potty train, taught him all of his letters and numbers, and helped him transition to big brotherhood a year and half ago. Now with two boys at Sonnets, our love for the school has grown. Our second son has had 90% of the same teachers our first son had, which is rare in the daycare world, and speaks volumes for the way the school cares for and treats its employees.

One of the things I love most about the school is the communication they have with parents. We have always felt like there was ample two-way communication between us and our son’s teachers. They celebrate our son’s successes and bring our kids’ challenges to our attention. If we are working on something at home, they collaborate with us to implement and reinforce in school. We feel so fortunate to have found the right fit for our family in this regard.

Side note: for those of you who have children with allergies, Sonnets is nut-free, but has been also been accommodating and incredibly cautious with our son’s egg allergy. He is anaphylactic when exposed to eggs and we feel like Sonnets has taken every precaution to keep him safe, but also included. (For example if a birthday treat was being offered or they were doing a cooking lesson, all ingredients were sent to us for review and we were offered an egg-free option).

We have no local family in Chicago, so having teachers that acted like extensions of our family has been so important to us. We made the decision to move out east, closer to family, and one of the things we will miss most is our Sonnets family.

Our son was at Sonnets West Loop for 3 years. We consider all of the staff and teachers at Sonnets our family. We started in the preschool room and spent 2 years in Pre-k and we feel like our son had such a great foundation there. When testing into kindergartens, our son scored 94+ on reading, writing and math. We really believe that has so much to do with the fun and engaging curriculum at Sonnets. I don’t think we could have picked a better place for our child to learn and grow. It also helped that Ms. Tameka, Ms. Andrea and all the teachers were always so accomodating and flexible when it came to all of our concerns. We started kindergarten this year at a school of our choice but still remain in contact with so many Sonnets families–the community we built was just one of the many reasons we felt so comfortable and happy with our choice. We will miss Sonnets but know that we have friends right in the neighborhood whenever we plan to visit.
My daughter attended Sonnets Academy from 18 months old until 5-1/2 years old. During that time, she had the opportunity to be under the tutelage of a well-formatted, pre-k educational curriculum with phenomenal (any positive adjective can go here) teachers and administrators. In pre-k specifically, she participated in a weekly yoga class and a Spanish music class. Plus, they accommodated a vegetarian diet. And, if that wasn’t enough, they had weekly homework assignments and monthly projects during the school year. In all, it was a very enriching experience for my daughter.

If you are looking for a pre-k program that will prepare your child for success in kindergarten, then you cannot go wrong with Sonnets Academy West Loop. I highly recommend it to everyone with a young child considering pre-k programs.
