There are no words to describe the dedication, respect, and genuine overall care I have seen all members across the staff of South shore charter school show for the scholars and parents of this school. I have five children of ages ranging from 19 years old to 3 years old and I have lived in New York City, upstate New York, Florida, and now, Long Island, in New York. To date I have never experienced or witnessed any educational environment that has the level of dedication that I have seen at South Shore Charter school. These children are not just simply numbers, nor are they just bodies to fill a seat. The teachers are truly exceptional. In particular, my sons teacher, Mr. O’Neill, a teacher that goes above and beyond every single day for his students. Every child is different in their own way and have different learning methods that work for them. Mr. O’Neill goes out of his way to connect with the students so that they can thrive and exceed even their own expectations in a way that they are comfortable with.

South Shore Charter school provides it students with unmatched values, principles, integrity, and discipline so they may succeed at anything they may strive for. They make it a point to have virtual meetings with parents to discuss how to help the scholars succeed and advance, even in the home setting. They create a safe environment for parents to share their thoughts with each other in regards to their children’s futures and progress. This is most helpful to me as a parent to get input from different educators that can share their knowledge on the many different avenues, we can take in the journey of helping to build our children’s confidence, self-esteem, broadening there horizons, and expanding their scope, of what their futures could be.

Something in particular, that surprised me very much, was the principal, Mr. Heslop and founder, Mr. Mattison and the fact that they knew each and every one of those many, many scholars by name.

Some may ask how I know that Mr. Heslop & Mr. Mattison knows all of the names of the scholars, that attend the school… Well, when you pick up your child at the end of the day and witness these individuals taking part in dismissal, speaking to children and parents, recognizing them by name, or when you attend a concert that the students are performing in and you pay attention, you will realize this because they go around to the classes, and acknowledge each student.

To go even further than that, every staff member that I have encountered, even in the office and from all avenues know each child, face and class that they are in.

I myself, was born and raised in the United States, and attended schools in New York for all of my adolescent life, so I am well aware of what the school system and environment was like. As well as what it is like today, which is much like a different world from what I grew up in. This school offers nothing like I’ve ever seen before, not even with my older two children in the schools that they have attended and are currently attending.

My son is learning at an exceptional rate and level, and is going further than I ever imagined at his age and my daughter will be attending in the fall.

I can’t wait to see what the future holds for my children under their guidance and our support as parents. They certainly do give meaning to the phrase “the sky is the limit”…

I also love that they refer to each child as scholars, this title makes the students feel enriched and seen.

There is nothing like having a peace of mind when you are at work and your child is at school. South Shore Charter School grants me comfort in knowing that my daughter is cared for in a safe, clean, friendly environment. She has wonderful teachers and the administration is very communicative, responsive and I love the events they have for parents and the assemblies they have for the scholars! She is happy to attend school everyday! She is excelling in every subject and her scores on the state tests are in the 99th percentile!!! I am grateful that my daughter is a part of the founding class of SSCS! I know that she has a bright future ahead of her with the foundation and academic principles that this school is built on!

WORST experience! Don’t send your child here, no a/c in the building and all they care about is NUMBERS and getting good ratings. Principal does not care to get to know your child…very sad especially considering his religious background! Also, everyone needs WAY MORE experience! STAY AWAY! And trying to communicate with anyone in this school is a joke!
