My son was a 10th grade student at Southeast HS. He has an educational and behavioral IEP due to his severe learning delay and ADHD. While his case manager did well at making sure his educational IEP was enforced the school lacked in accommodations concerning his behavioral IEP. As a matter of fact the administration did not even realize an behavioral IEP was even in place. The school was made aware that we are also waiting on Medicaid approval for a medication that would help his behavior.

The administrator’s continued to punish him as if he did not have a behavioral disability. Disruptive behavior twice and ISS both times- a nicotine vape once and more ISS- and now another student gave him a battery for a vape- no cartridge or charger. It tested positive for THC- again it was given to him and he had no idea what had been smoked out of it. Now they give him OSS until 2/18 with an option of the bad alternative school and behavior probation for the rest of his high school career.

Southeast High School does not care about disabled students. Their idea is to move them to an alternative school so that the assistant principals do not have to help them learn and grow.

The IEP Manifestation Meeting was a joke. They claim that ADHD and lack of medication will not cause a child to make bad decisions. I’ve reached out for their help several times and it was never met with satisfactory support.

If you have the opportunity to send your child to any other school instead of Whitfield County Schools I would highly recommend doing so. If you aren’t a main stream student or are not involved in sports they do not care about you. It’s like everyone is only there to earn a paycheck. I promise I will be pursuing my options to bring accountability to Whitfield County Schools.

Had to leave. They do not care for their students. If you aren’t part of their sports you don’t matter to them.
Seems they’re all intrested in a pay check not in children’s education very disappointed terrible school
