Great school. I graduated there. class of 2015. worth it. vale la pena. of course its not perfect. every school has a downside. But this school has great professors, activities, field trips, events etc. Many professors are really good. Others not so good. You need to get on their good side. Dont argue with them, do what they say and they will respect and help you. Many professors do know how to teach there. some don’t. If school sucks for you here its mainly your fault. why? well because it depends who you hangout with and which classes you get. Also, get JROTC if you really want it and have a passion for it. Many friends disliked it. Join sports. I was in football (very intense and strict, but fun if you know what your doing) and also was in wrestling. Best sport I ever became a part of. You can play around a little bit but depends how much and what you do. Its a chill atmosphere. I can compare this school with other schools because both of my brothers graduated from coral park and told me how much it sucked. Also, I have many friends who went to other schools then transferred to southwest because they moved and said it was definitely worth it. Its not hard. Depends what classes of course. Most students can handle it. I graduated with 3.0 and was still able to have fun. Strict things about Southwest is tardiness. they hate it. Football games are fun. as well as the field trips. I went to Orlando 4 times as a trip. Could have gone to one more but tickets sold out. Pep rally’s are sick. well some. legit. with DJs, beautiful dancers, and performances etc. Very few people didn’t have fun or didn’t enjoyed it because either they didn’t have friends ( not trying to be rude), or weren’t involved in anything such as clubs or sports. Or even had crapy electives they chose themselves which they regret. There are fun clubs, sport and electives. Just make sure its something that suits you and you really like. Marching band is fun but not my type, I was mainly in sports usually. Acting/drama/theater clubs and elective is actually pretty fun. I laughed my butt of with new and old friends. quick and last tip. Make new friends. If old friends are boring or wack, then just move on. One of my best or favorite experiences and moments was with the new friends I made. There are some options. Some people who can relate, share and talk with. I even had a great time with some teachers. They (some) can be open, friendly and fun. If they are fun doesn’t always mean they are slack. They could be nice but not weak if you know what I mean. Be wise. Anyways, that’s a glimpse of my 4 year high school experience. oh, before I forget. Usually freshman year is the least favorite. To me personally and about 4 out of 5 of my friends. How come? well because your new, lost, learning and adapting to every environment and mentality. You got to renew your mind. with all the respect. And also teachers (security and administrators) usually tend to be more strict(more mean, less fun) with freshman.and Its ok. Its normal. Its because for some reason 9th graders have a bad rep. They need to get to know you. Give them about 2 9 weeks. They should be more chill by that time. gtg. Welcome to Southwest!sorry for the 1,000 word letter. I kinda like essays , and prefer to be specific to give a clear picture so that your aware, not tricked into a makeup crap. Dale. Southwesera. Motto. There are only 2 kinds of people. Southwest eagles, and those that wanna be.
If I could give half stars, this school would actually be a 3.5, not a 4. I transferred into Southwest for my last two years of highschool and graduated from this school. Compared to my pervious highschool, this school was the least spirited school I have attended, and it did not help that the admistration did not allow expression of school pride becasue they are constantly implementing their school uniform policy, which may actually be a peace of mind for some parent, but personally as a student it made school even more unbearable than it already was. While i may have not been there for long, I remember this school having a handful of teachers that cared about ALL their student, not just the “gifted students”. Unfortunately i still have ties with this school because I have a younger brother who attends this school, and on occasions i have to pick him up early or drop off something for him. Although i may be a few years older than the students currently enrolled, I dont think it is right or professional to be discriminating a younger individual who is only trying to pick up a younger sibling cause my mother works 12 hours shifts and cant come in at her leisure to sign him out. I’ve never had a problem with this school when I attended it back in 2014, I did what i had to do to stay out of trouble and graduate, now having these encounters as an alumni is really disheartening and doesnt give me much hope that this school will change in the future. If you are looking for a school where your child will be “okay” from 7:20am til 2:20pm, highly recommmended, but if your hoping to find something more than just a place to drop off your child I’d trying looking at other schools.
Amazing experience in this school. Although there were many students, the school is appropriately large. Seating during lunch is no problem. The teachers I had were outstanding and I will never forget them. They were very kind and many offered after school tutoring or help. Counselors were there for you and seemed very glad to help. Some bathrooms in the school were disgusting though. The ones found in the main building were the usual suspects. The school also has a great music and arts classes and after school activities. The library was quiet and had a large selection of books, more then I’ve seen in any other school. Overall amazing experience!
