My eldest son is shy and quiet but very academic, despite the slow early year adaptation, he’s overall happy in this school; and after all, realized that the Spalding Grammar School was still the best option for him in the area. He has grown sensibly mature and had high achievements in all subjects he’s chosen at the end of his secondary school year. Without a doubt, he’s decided to continue his sixth form here. It’s true that Grammar Schools are not for everybody. Many pros and cons. The schools are surely not fun and very academic. They will expect all students to learn at the same pace as it’s what the 11+ test is for, I suppose. Therefore, to naturally pass the test perhaps is better. Also, I believe that boys and girls someway learn differently. As a parent, I did not force my sons to choose this school and I certainly do not regret my decision to send them to this school as it suits them better than the other local schools.
The quality of teaching is high, and the experienced teachers are committed to ensuring pupils achieve their best. Being a relatively small school, there is more of a community feel than some of the larger secondaries.
There is a good focus on discipline without being draconian. My son travels some distance to attend but I am glad he has the opportunity to go to a school that is focused on providing the best education possible.
The school doesn’t allow most students to eat inside, which is a basic need if you ask me. The school is very traditional which is not very good in my opinion. The teachers are overall good but the sets are not organised well.
Attended in the early – mid 00’s and witnessed both myself and other students suffer from institutionalized bullying at the hands of both students and teachers alike. A very elitist ethos whereby you and your problems are ignored if it doesn’t affect their bottom line (grade averages). Some teachers were genuinely pleasant and wanted to help, but we’re talking maybe 5-10% of the faculty. I really hope it’s improved since.
Stupid rules that arnt necessary such as:
Keeping us outside which is apparently made to get us outside more, not only has this caused more troubles with in subjects they also give you punishment , this doesn’t look like a positive change at all what they claim it to be.
