Now I might admit I have been at very little schools, staying at a much cozier smaller school, so my mindset as to what a good school is is very much biased.
At Slam, one of my favorite things is the spread of diversity there. We as students enjoy celebrating each other and our society as a whole. Students are very open-minded and forgiving. We do have a lot of different people at slam, but we in all get along very well.
Teachers are amazing. They have special ways of teaching that do help lots of students, and their differences. A lot of students do complain about teachers, yes. But that’s to be expected at every school and can’t necessarily be taken away in any case. at the last quarter, we have been pushed to our limits to see what we’ll be doing for the next year. As it is stressing for a lot of people, I was still able to find joy in the envoirment provided.
As first generation students, we are still trying to figure out what we’ll be doing for the next several years so as students complain about certain things, it should be taken in to consideration for hopes of fixing, but shouldn’t be taken as a hit to the school in all.
As for my complaints, well although I do come from a small school that is nearly square shaped in all it’s glory, I find this three story school much crowded. Mind I forgotten the detail that my older school had as much students here at slam (500-550) and was only one story, yet I still find myself being pushed into a crowd of people. Also the lack of a library really has me sad. I truly did expect a large area where I would be able to read and study as other students do. The cafeteria was also a surprise, for how small it was.
The smaller details of the school though have really given me this sort of forgiveness as to what it lacks. The large windows from floor to ceiling, the turf, the windows all around in one wall as well as glass doors near the cafeteria, the natrual light and green accent walls. I could go on.
The staff and administration is amazing as well. They’re very helpful and sweet. Most anyways. A lot of teachers are young too, which gives this lively aura throughout the building.
All in all, Slam Nevada is an amazing, competitive charter school and I will be returning next year and hopefully for years to come.
