I have had both of my boys at Springfield Academy for the past 6 years and I’ve been so impressed with the progress they have made academically. We have been from the infant room – Kindergarten and my oldest has been in the threes – 2nd grade. My kindergartener can read well and my 2nd grader excels at math. The older kids have class projects, they do science experiments, and there are clubs that they can join during the hear like nature club, art, and puzzles and games club. There is also karate, ballet, and music offered throughout the year to kids aged 3 and up. The teachers are loving and nurturing, there are so many fun activities that the kids get to participate in throughout the school year and through summer camp as well including water day and/or pool day, field day, and field trips throughout summer camp. My kids have made wonderful friends here and we have also built great relationships with other parents and with the teachers and administrators. The teachers work with the kids and understand the best ways to help them learn and are so encouraging of their progress and achievements. One of the things that my kids love most are the play areas. Springfield Academy has so much outdoor space and my kids have enjoyed the playground as well as the field space that has allowed them to play other games like baseball and tag. The kids get a lot of outside time, even during the school year which can’t be said for many schools.

Springfield Academy follows the Fairfax County Public Schools calendar for most things however, they don’t have as many days off such as the teacher workdays, non Christian holidays, and they open on snow days if it’s possible to do so safely (and it seems like they are able to open most of the time). We also like the flexibility of the school. When it comes to illnesses, or having to take time away from school to see family, the administrators have always worked with us during the school year to make up work and they even have worksheets for the little ones in preschool if you want your child to continue learning while they are out.

I also appreciated that they stayed open during the entirety of covid. They took safety precautions to make sure that staff and students were as safe as they could be but they stayed open and recognized that without care, many of the parents that work as nurses, doctors, and other medial professionals as well as police officers and military would not have had a childcare option and would not have been able to perform their jobs. The school was always on top of health and safety measures but they did it in a way that made it possible for the facility to stay open, for the kids to learn and build relationships, for the kids to still have fun, and they did so with very few covid cases.

Beyond academics, the kids also learn about kindness, being a helpful community leader and they have responsibilities in their classes that rotate every week (line leader, teachers helper, making sure certain areas are tidy, etc.) to instill pride in the tasks that they are given and the lesson of giving back and working together to create and maintain spaces that everyone uses. They also perform Christmas programs for parents at Christmas and have a pretty extensive graduation ceremony that all the kids work hard learning songs for and performing with classmates. My kids love it here and the teacher turnover is extremely low so staff seem to enjoy working here as well. We have also referred several friends and family members here as well.

I had my kids at one of those “chain” daycares, which are really corporate franchises hidden as schools, I wanted to try a family owned daycare. My girls have been going there for 3 months but they have thrived! They do so many fun and wonderful things, during Christmas they had a charming Christmas play and the next day Santa came and handed out candy canes. It was wonderful. My girls’ teacher was a former Fairfax county worker for 15 years so I feel at ease leaving her there. At the other Corporate daycare, my children were seriously treated as products, moved from class to class like cattle so the Stupid manager could send the workers home and save a few bucks. Will never do that again!!! The class I leave my daughters in is the same class I pick them up in, and I love it! Plus they teach the children The Pledge of Allegiance, daily prayers, wonderful values. I recommend it 100%!!
This is an AWESOME school. My son is in the kindergarten class with Ms. Jacquelyn and Ms. Jessica. They are both amazing. Any time I want to know about how he is doing or how his day went I can call and ask or one of them will give me a report either in the morning or afternoon. Everyone is friendly and helpful. When no other school was open during the recent snow storm, this school was. Granted they were only offering daycare services, but I did not (as a single mother) miss any days of work. This type of top notch service is hard to come by. Ms. Angela and Ms. Jen, in the front office, are also very friendly and helpful. it is really nice to have a team helping with the education of my child. A safe and loving environment. Thank you to ALL the staff that help in the care of my son.
