My experience as a student in this facility was the worst, and some events I had experienced still traumatizes me nearly 15 years later. I was raised by a single mother whom was rarely home struggling to make ends meet while keeping me in a private school. The principal had some type of vendetta against me, I have no idea what it was I’ve done to deserve such treatment as a child. Instead of her being empathetic trying to address and help with my behavioral issues, she berated me, embarrassed me by screaming and signaling me out in front if my class mates. She never once took the time to council me and ask me what was going on at home. Whenever a classmate and I would both get into trouble and sent to the principles office, Ms. Freebes would always only punish me without asking what occurred. I was picked on and being treated unfairly just because she did not like me. I was never disrespectful to any of the adults, I was raised to always treat your elders with respect. I was expelled in the 7th grade over ONE altercation. A teachers assistant told me to “shut up” in front of the class after I asked her a question, with the emotion of embarrassment and humiliation I had responded inappropriately. I was sent down to the principals office, after Ms. Freebes only hearing the T.A side of the story, she screamed out that I was expelled at the top of her lungs. She never wrote a formal letter or gave my mom a reason as to why she made such an abrupt decision. She knew my mom would be unable to appeal her decision, she is a Haitian immigrant and unfamiliar with state laws and the rules & regulations within the Board of ed. I was always talked down , too humiliated, never having anyone to believe me when something was going wrong. I was labeled as a bad kid, never given a chance. But being expelled was a blessing in disguise. I relocated to a public school, the staff was always concerned and willing to help, I never been expelled or suspended from any other institution, and I haven’t done anything different from what I was doing in SSJA. Ms.Freebes is not a good principal I have witnessed the awful things she had said to the students like myself. She once told a classmates mother that the student would be a troublemaker all his life. At a young age you’re most likely to believe what an adult tells you, and as a child growing up in that school, I believed that I was a bad kid who didn’t deserve anything good in their life yet alone deserved to be heard and treated fairly.
One of the best Catholic schools in queens the teachers are loving and caring..Not to mention how wonderful the principle is she takes care of each student as if they were her own she knows everyone by 1st name and last including the parents and grandparents I myself was a graduate and I must say it is a wonderful wonderful thing to see the school still thriving and prospering the way they are my children also attend St.joachim and Anne school now. They will learn all of the necessary tools they need to move forward in life as well as having a relationship with the most high God. To attend St. Joachim and anne school is to be a part of a family…A family that will never let you down or let go of you…im 37 years old and they still Love me ??
Avoid at all cost. This school is out for your money. The school isn’t even up to date, the computers are old and learning is a struggle. All the public schools I have been to are up to date and are always upgrading the technology and books. The location is horrible for dropping off kids. The streets are narrow and the drivers are idiots. Do your self a favor and look at schools anywhere else. This is my brutal honest review. Plan wisely my friend
