This place gets a big tick of approval from my 17yr old whose been mostly disengaged from school for the past 6yrs. In his 4yrs of highschool he never felt he was learning anything & struggled badly with self confidence, social anxiety & pressures to perform.
He was going to leave school at the end of the year but was so unsure about what to do & honestly not ready for the work place or Tafe.
St Joe’s has been a life line for him. After only 1 term he’s completed a certificate in food safety, a barista course, qualified for a white card (cert to work safely in construction) & is signed up to learn first aid next term. He’s still not sure what he wants to do as a career yet, but the incredible staff at St Joe’s are working with him to build his skills and confidence. There’s also no expectation students will leave when they reach, what other schools call, Yr12.
