Such a beautiful school, so much kindness for example the year 6’s walk the kindy kids to their class so they aren’t alone. Each week a child from each class gets an award and the way the rest of the children cheer and celebrate their friend is so lovely. The teachers are incredible, class sizes are small. The facilities are clean, lots of new areas and large areas to run around. The before and after school care is fantastic. The location is a 30 second walk to the beach. Its a dream school.
For a school that apparently has Catholic values, they were quite happy to take our $100 application fee, even though we were somehow allowed to apply when out of the catchment zone. When we went in for the ‘interview’ we were told that even though we are 1km as the crow flies from the school, it was outside the catchment zone. Gee, if only there was some way to clearly inform parents of the catchment zone prior to applying? I guess it’s probably a nice little money maker for them, so why bother, eh? Either way, for a school that promotes honesty and respect, this just shows they are living a lie. So glad we dodged this bullet.
SMSJ is a wonderful little School, I have 2 boys currently at this school and very excited to send my little girl in a few years. The principle Mr Farrell is very kind and nurturing and has done an amazing job with the school. The staff are exceptional and really do a wonderful job teaching, and my kids are doing great academically. The facilties are great and the school makes good use of the park next to the school for added play area. The variety of sports are really great and the kids from year 3-6 even get to learn to surf. Highly reccoment SMSJ.
