We are at St. Matthias for a few reasons. The community is tight. We have so many opportunities for families and parents to do stuff together, for example the other night was family game night and another night was service night (we packed lunches for Blessings in a Backpack and made valentines for Misericordia). I go to the Moms nights out and my husband does Dads nights out, specific to each of my kids classes. Also the principal is AWESOME. She is really doing great things for the school. And she is there holding the doors open every morning, welcoming all the students BY NAME! It is a great way for the kids to start the day, feeling recognized by the principal. The IB program, although hard to articulate, has also blown me away. I feel like it is teaching my kids how to be successful in the real world, not just be able to regurgitate information. The specific IB concepts that are incorporated in all grades are things like sharing the planet, how the world works, how we organize ourselves, how we express ourselves, etc. All grades follow this, but obviously the students explore more about the concept in each successive grade level. I dont think I have seen any other school follow this type of learning! We are so happy to be part of this school community!
What a great school and parish! They are very welcoming to all and academically they are a strong school too. My oldest graduated there in 2014 and was accepted at some of the best selective enrollment high schools in the state. My two younger children still attend there and love the friends they are making that will no doubt last them a lifetime. Last year, the school was accredited as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. I can see how the critical thinking skills being taught as part of the IB program are helping my children to be successful in all sorts of different ways. Check out St. Matthias school – – exciting things are happening there.
We had no idea that when we decided to send our children to St. Matthias 8 years ago our whole family would become part of a wonderful, caring community. The dedicated teachers and staff, led by an amazing principal, not only challenge the students with the curriculum, but also to be the best person they can! Our children have grown academically, emotionally and spiritually through the learning, volunteering and participation in the Church. We couldnt be happier with the education our children are receiving and find great comfort in knowing that they will be prepared for high school and beyond.
