Since becoming an academy, the school has massively deteriorated in quality under the leadership of Toby Miller. Don’t forget that their Ofsted rating is 6 years out of date. The school neglected my son whilst he was (wrongly) put in isolation. During the complaint process, the head teacher appears to have lied to the panel in order to down-play their fault, not least because his version of events conflicted with the chair of governor’s. The panel did recommend changes to the school’s isolation policy, but in my view it was insufficient. It is a reminder that the academy trust has no transparency or accountability, so they can do as they please. The head teacher is reviled by many parents, whose children have suffered as a result of his blind intransigence. When I spoke to other parents about this, it quickly became clear that I was not alone. One parent described him as a ‘dictator’ and another, after careful consideration, quite simply as ‘thick’. If you send your kids here, you can also a expect a letter once a year from Ani Magill, the trust CEO, in which she rambles on about world events, makes snide political comments, and offers no insight whatsoever into the school. It is telling that the organisation only allows ‘highly-rated’ schools into their academy trust. So much for their Catholic values.
If you want your child to be neglected then the school is perfect for you.Shame as St.Peters used to be the best secondary school in Guildford but since became Academy around 3 years ago went down the toilet. The problem is the headteacher Mr.Miller and Deputy head Mr.Crome which for them the most important is a leadership that turned into a DICTATORSHIP, parents and children don’t have the right to voice their different views or opinion. The school policy is very petty suits well the dictators than the children or parents. My son has been put into 3 days of isolation. Unfortunately they broke the law as on a day two my son has been abandoned for the whole day in a cold corridor without any food or drink. That is correct he has been forgotten for the whole day by their leaders!
In other occasion my son left the school in the middle of the day because he has been bullied which the school did nothing to stop that.Lastly my son has been flagged for low grades but no help received!Be prepared to spend a lot of money for tutoring so your child could do well. I’m really sorry for the teachers who work there as most of them are amazing.
Unfortunately, few members of staff actually care about their students (and for those I was truly grateful for during my time there) instead the majority are more interested in taking advantage of their authority. They also fail to act up on things that are brought to their attention especially in regards to the actions of certain teachers and students requests are constantly ignored. I hope they can take a different more caring approach in the future in order to do better instead of purely focusing on protecting their image and imposing ridiculous rules.
I attended this school from 2008 – 2011 and with with thanks to outstanding teaching and exceptional emotional support from heads. I finished with 10 A* – C GCSE results.
I would however like to echo previous reviews whereby minorities, lower class children and those with disabilities are likely to be bullied by the upper class white children at this school, so please do bare that in mind before enrolling your little one.
I also asked to be enrolled onto the hairdressing course but was told I was too smart for it. I have now been diagnosed with ADHD, BPD and CPTSD in my later adulthood and being a qualified hairdresser would have worked so well around my mental illnesses. I will always look back in anger at that.
This school is good on the educational base however the treatment to black students is wrong, and many are racially subjected due to their hair being “extreme” even though they have the same length as many of the white students. The teachers love to pick on them and give them isolations even though they don’t treat the white students the same. This therefore shows the subjected racism that still goes on today in the UK. Also many of the students are treated unfairly and favouratised.
