Attended yonks ago for year 11 and 12. Experienced a whole lot of bullying and exclusion (where I was shunned/ignored/excluded from groups). I was the only newly immigrated Chinese in my home class. I shed too many tears in that first year. I even talked to the school counsellor. Didn’t help one bit. It was lovely to see that one of my lovely tormentors later worked as a teacher at SPLC, albeit briefly. What a great role model she must be…

Back then all the bullying stemmed from racist undertones. Some of the teachers were also bullies. This random teacher found me in the library as I was too depressed to attend class. She asked me a question and I didn’t answer. (I was skipping class and knew I was in trouble). She said something to the effect of “Damn kid who can’t speak English!” (Off topic: I got B+/As for my English). She proceeded to throw my diary at my head! And yes it connected. Hard! I was shocked/dazed partly from the pain, and partly just from disbelief a teacher could be so abusive! She then stormed off down the library stairs. Their religious brainwashing finally worked. I prayed fervently then that she will trip down the stairs one day.

I hated the school tremendously. Never attended any of the reunions even though I continued to live in Brisbane most of my life. I will never send my kids to this school even if every other school in Brisbane got burned to the ground in a great fire, or destroyed in the next big flood.

Was on campus once when Boarders started screaming and shouting threats and cusses at us while blasting music at 9 o’clock at night. Disrespectful students and terrible at every sport even with the facilities they have access to.
We encountered the worst enrollment process at this school for our 7 Year old (Year 1) son who was going to attend St Peter’s in Term 4. We applied at the end of Term 2 and we were notified 2 weeks before the end of Term 3 that we need to provide a full language assessment by a speech pathologist (Our son was a finalist at his current school for a speech contest) and a functional assessment conducted by an OT. There is nothing in his current report to suggest that he needs this. Teacher’s have never flagged this to us before. He achieved 1 for effort in all areas and “satisfactory” in all areas. He is 7 years old, figuring out the big change from Kindy to Year 1. Even after conducting the 15 hour functional assessment ( 6 month waiting list and books are closed) we won’t be guaranteed a place at the School. Why not just be upfront from the beginning and say that you expect a 7 Year old to be achieving High outcomes in order to display by face value that the School achieves high outcomes. In the meantime an “average”, Year 1 student will be discriminated against because he may need support to achieve high outcomes which would be too much effort even though parents are sacrificing to send their children to a private school expecting to receive a great education. At least help an average student become great and achieve the high outcomes you strive to show at face value. Our son was accepted at other prestigious schools but we wanted the supportive Christian experience and values upheld. Jesus saw the best in the “fishermen” and he helped them to become great “disciples” . We are beyond disappointed with St Peter’s. It is better to be honest right in the beginning and tell the parents that you don’t think that their child will fit into your mould or fit your criteria. Instead of drilling them through 2 interviews and expecting assessments to be conducted in 2 weeks and even after that effort you still might not accept the student into the school. Honesty is a great Christian value to uphold.
Three children in lower primary. We have had amazing teachers at every level. The curriculum is the perfect mix of academic, spiritual/well-being, music, arts and sport. Professionally run admin makes it an efficient process .. so glad we made the move.
We have had ups and downs at the school and most of our issues have been around certain teachers who show favourtism to some children and disregard others. Additionally, there are some teachers at this school who use their platform and power to push their socialist views very strongly and then when the student puts their opinion across, they are chastised, then approached in the playground and bullied about it. Not nice behaviour or role modelling.
