Even if for some reason you’re able to overlook the testosterone-fuelled culture and rampant bullying of this place, consider this: your son will be much better off in a (co-ed) school where the focus is actually on education, not rugby union. An overriding emphasis on something that, by and large, won’t prepare him for his life and career, together with the absence of regular, healthy interaction with young women during his formative years (a criticism of male-only schools more broadly), means that there are more nutritious options out there. And even ones with no Latin-speaking spiders crawling around.
I’ve only ever had bad experiences at Stannies and with their students.
Racism is present within the school. I have witnessed mates being bullied and antagonised for their Mediterranean heritage. The teaching staff appear to tolerate it; only reacting when its called out by others.
There is also the dubious decision making from questionable sport officials. Whenever I’ve played at their grounds the most outlandish calls are made that always favour Stannies. I had one game where the official was ineligible and could barely keep up with play. He reeked of whiskey.
I bring into doubt the integrity of the school. I have seen on numerous occasions headmasters comfortably interact with officials before any first grade games. This is followed, again, by dubious officiating in favour of Stannies.
I am glad I’ll never have to set foot on those grounds again.
Long, passionate, meaningful reviews are blacklisted, how wunderbar. This school is bad. Enough said or else my review isn’t worth anything.
A lovely school on sprawling grounds. Numerous cricket pitches and rugby fields plus tennis courts.
