SIHA has exceeded the expectations that I had for it coming in! The focus is definitely on the kids education. My son is in kindergarten and as early as the 1st week of school he came home reading full books. I am impressed by the level of reading and writing thats hes learned at such a young age. The staff is friendly, the teachers tend to their kids and Dr Utzansky, who is the founder/owner/teacher, is extremely passionate about doing whats right for the school, teachers, parents, kids and community! Her presence is strongly felt throughout the school which leaves me more at ease than I would otherwise. The Principal, Rabbi Rosenberg, has been so friendly, pleasant and approachable. SIHA would be a top choice for any parent wanting to have their child have strong secular studies, a good understanding of the foundation of Judaism and a home away from home environment.

Disappointing! Organization, quality education and safety of the school is sorely lacking. The security guard is all too often not posted, front office is extremely disorganized and the administration doesn’t seem interested in fixing these issues. Academics are one of the primary issues, quality of teachers is an unfortunate contributing factor. The school likes to boast about their state test scores and graduating student’s HS admissions. One important factor they omit is that the majority of students are in private tutoring in an effort to ace those tests and get into the top high schools in Staten Island. Same is possible by saving on the yearly tuition hikes and attending local PS while continuing the tutoring. Lastly, religion over the last few years has been increasingly pushed. This was our last year in this school.
This was my daughter’s first year at SIHA, and thus far it has been a very positive experience for us all.
All three of our daughters had attended JFS in the past, but after giving the new administration two years to give my daughter a proper education, we finally had enough. Amid the constantly ignored bouts of bullying, administrative incompetence, and the complete lack of secular studies ( my child rarely had any English, math, or science homework during her last year) we finally decided to register her at SIHA. She is now thriving both academically as well as socially.
We have just re-registered her for next year, and we look forward to both her personal growth and progress, as well as a successful future for the school in the Island’s Jewish community.
