We joined Step By Step a month prior to the pandemic hitting and my daughter was welcomed warmly by Ms. Jenna and the entire SBS staff. They navigated the pandemic with grace and by the time kids were back in session Ms. Jenna and my daughter had bonded virtually which made transitioning back so much easier. We also had our second child during 2020 so he started in the infant room when our daughter returned to preschool. Our daughter has recently started kindergarten and so thankful for how well SBS set her up to succeed as she comes home every day sharing how easy things are but entered knowing all letter sounds, how to write/read, count to 100 and do basic math – even multiplication! But not only did they provide her a jump start with academics they empowered her independence. SBS and Ms. Jenna played a huge role in fostering life skills and I have them to thank. She gets ready for school predominantly on her own, makes herself breakfast, packs her own school lunch, and helps around the house with chores such as folding and prepping food which makes my life easier and her proud to contribute to the household. Our little guy has moved up rooms and now is in transition tots with wonderful gals who show so much care and compassion. While there was some turnover with some of the staff over the years (2020/2021), given how stressful and taxing the childcare industry is coupled with a pandemic, SBS has continued to hire great humans who care. Early in 2022 they hired a new director who has made a great place even better and the staff has really settled into a great group of folks taking on the grand task of making kind humans out of little souls. Asked my daughter what she had to say: I really liked the classroom, loved my friends and my teachers, Ms. Jenna and Ms. Kylie
Step By Step welcomed our two kids to their facility with open arms! When our son stopped napping at the previous daycare, and they weren’t providing an alternative for that time, we felt pressured to move to a different daycare. In speaking with Beth Austad, Director, she assured us that the Montessori method and Step By Step provides options for kids to nap, or participate in other activities no matter the age. The Montessori teachers and support staff were engaged, helpful and made sure our kids, and us parents, adapted to the Montessori methods. Thanks to the amazing teachers, our two kids gained a fantastic foundation in math, letter recognition, geography, Spanish and music. The extra curricular activities of Soccer Shots, Dance and Stretch and Grow were also nurturing and helpful in their development. Overall, we were very satisfied with our experience and our 4 year old would still be attending if we didn’t have to relocated for my husband’s job. We will always be thankful for our time at Step By Step!
We transitioned to SBS Southdale last summer and have loved every second of it! We have been to two other centers in the area, both fine and provided good care, but none have come close to what we’ve experienced at SBS. We were thrilled to get a spot (call early!) – and have never looked back. My oldest will be starting Kindergarten in the fall, and in a matter of 10 months has gone from a very early reader to reading 2nd grade level books! She was welcomed into her new group of peers and has made fantastic friends that we will be sad to leave. My youngest is two and transitioned easily due to the love and creativity of the toddler teachers. We’ve joked that we would go live in an apartment if that’s what it took to afford SBS – that’s how important it has become to our family. The teachers have much longer tenure at SBS than anywhere we’ve seen, which has made it feel like an extended family. THANK YOU for the outstanding care you provide to our girls, and for all the love you’ve shown to us as a new family.
