I attended this school in 1960-63. The first pupils in a brand new.building. it was chaos. The curriculum was antiquated so, bright pupils like myself were placed in D classes because of the subjects I chose. Teachers were untrained and spoke to us disrespectfully. The only facilities we had, was a field of grass for sport and a make do tuck shop that sold snacks. No school lunches and no school library etc it was a miserable concrete jungle. I left aged fifteen and never looked back. I trained in an apprenticeship and became an able dressmaker. I then trained as a nurse for children and became a midwife. I passed my nursing exams with Distinction. At aged 32 I returned to tertiary education and obtained three diplomas and a Masters degree as a UKCP Psychotherapist with excellent recommendations from all my clinical supervisors. I then practiced for 25 years.
If schools let you down (South Stratified let me down) never give up. There is often another road to go down to reach your full potential. Leaving school was the only choice I was offered. My family were poor. My siblings Glenn Martin became a school prefect and was encouraged by his teachers at the same school. He believed he was brighter than his older sister (me) but it clearly is not the truth. Keep going and never give up is what I did. Thank you for reading this. Helen nee Martin
4 stars for great teachers who actually treat you like human beings and good music and art curriculum. lost a star on the horrendous bullying of LGBTQIA students. I think they should conduct a workshop on how to not be a bigot
Some of the kids there were really mean to me, 1star because I’m not able to give it a zero, they bullied me online too . Full of haramis also. Never send your kids to this school.
one star because I could not choose negative stars. This school sure does have good teachers and classes, but the students are horrendous. one of the only things that makes this school good is the good students, who are usually bullied into mental illnesses (depression, anxiety, etc), and the support units. The school has gone though renovations, which is good, but the students will always be the same. I cannot go a single day without wanting to jump out a window because of how annoying the school is.
Pretty much no one that lives in Strathfield, in a house at least, send the children here and that’s a bit sad. It’s also quite unheard of anywhere else in Sydney. Big cultural divide between Greenacre and Strathfield. And btw Strathfield as a suburb is overrated. Definitely overpriced as it’s right next to Greenacre. You can’t escape that fact.
