Has to be the worst school my daughter has ever attended. The kids are very unfriendly and unwelcoming. Every day she is forced to eat alone and walk to her classes alone. She has to fight her way through the halls seeing that they choose to accept more kids than the school is able to hold. After doing this, half the kids have been expelled over petty things such as, wrong pants, ‘C’ grades, wearing a hoodie, tardies, attendance and other things. Lunch lines are too long and you probably wont eat if you decide to wait in line. Teachers are not well equipped to be in the classroom seeing how most don’t have a teaching degree, just a field degree. Every project assigned has to be top of the line so expect to spend a good amount of money each week. Teachers are overall rude and ignorant and are in it for themselves and not the kids. There is no school spirit, school activities, pep rallies or homecomings. All this has been excluded due to the fact that they have nothing to do with science. The office staff, is lost and has no clue what they are doing. They do not check ID’s when you are signing out a kid. It’s difficult to find someone who actually can speak English and is willing to help. Kids are on their own once they enter the office. The school doesn’t provide diversity with race or ethnicity and orientation. The principal is the most ignorant of them all. She has a super inflated ego and takes credit for the schools ‘brilliance’ when she is hardly ever in office and when she is she does nothing but punish kids. She is unprofessional and her bad moods are reflected on the kids. She is judgmental and those favored are put on a pedastool. Overall this school could use a new staff and new attitude. Think twice before applying and sending your child.
I am beyond thankful to have had the opportunity to complete my high school education at TERRA. I remember applying when I was in eighth grade and being wait listed due to the randomized process of the Magnet lottery. I was so sad, but luckily one of the best things happened and I got called from the wait list. If you are a middle school student or parent, pick a variety of feasible choices as acceptance in Magnet programs is never guaranteed. TERRA has a dynamic atmosphere of love, support, and academic rigor. Students may get caught up with having a tough class, strict teacher, or the like, but the truth is that TERRA provides a unique experience unlike any other high school. There will be homework, studying, and putting in great effort, but there is also a backbone of help and support from staff, PTSA, and teachers. I took 10 AP classes at TERRA and they have prepared me for the next step. I have had wonderful intellectual experiences learning about cultures, the English language, literature, Spanish, the economy, psychology, history, and the like. In retrospect, no matter how difficult I thought academics were, this rigor has given me stamina and prepared me for my college journey. There are tons of activities for students and there is a great emphasis for pushing students academically, but also motivating them to have fun through pep-rallies, dances, field days, and more. There is an extracurricular for everyone. This fall I will be attending the University of Pennsylvania and I owe TERRA a whole lot for paving my way to an elite institution and to future successes.
