I attended tstc Abilene online to receive a degree in digital media. At first, the experience was well and loved all of my professors except one. Apparently for my photography class, a teacher was not assigned, so a teacher in Harilgen took on our class. The teacher was not as thorough as the others, didn’t grade on time, described the assignments in a non descriptive brief way, and made the class a “learn as you go” kind of class. After 3 months, mid semster, of turning in my work the teacher decides to finally grade everything and I received an A .I was very pleased since I reached out to the professor numerous of times stating I was struggling with understanding the material in regards to what we were supposed to turn in for the first assignment. I submitted the first assignment, but emailed the professor right after to explain my confusion. The teacher responded by stating “no worries”, and soon started posting videos to our student web page for the class since other students came forward stating they are also struggling. So after receiving that A after 3 months I was pleased. The week after the professor graded our work, an email was sent out stating if we had any late work to please turn it in. I went back to check and be sure I had turned everything in, I saw I had two quizzes I forgot to complete, and completed the quizzes. A week before finals the professor sent another email out to the whole class stating if we did not turn in the late work we did not complete, he would no accept any late work on a certain date, and again I didn’t think anything of it since I completed everything. However, when I checked my grade a few days before the final my grade went from an A to an F. I was so angry and confused! I immediately emailed the professor asking why my grade dropped so low. The professor then decides to inform me the first assignment I turned in was incorrect and I needed to redo it. At that moment I decided to go over the professors head to contact the Provost to explain the situation. Here is where I was not pleased at how this situation was handled. After explaining to the provost what happened, he also agreed that it was odd how low my grade dropped and how the professor stated “no worries” on my one assignment. The provost stated they would contact the tstc in Harilgen since the professor was from there and the provost there would need to take further action since it was another city. A few days later I heard nothing, and my grade dropped even lower. I contacted the provost on Abilene again and he apologized stating he got busy but was able to send the professor an email but didn’t give me an answer on why the professor dropped my grade so low. Eventually, the professor “failed” me for the whole class without giving me an exact answer as to why he gave me an A the whole semster only to drop it the week of finals, and the provost could not answer my questions or concerns. I was very angry, confused, and felt like I wasted my time with tstc. I wanted to post my experience to inform others who are considering going to this school to please be aware of situations like this. I understand if we, as students, need to repeat assignments or receive late work penalties and what not. However, giving a student a false grade the whole semster and then not telling them why is unacceptable! It is basically a form of cheating because our grade tells us how we are doing in the class. If you have an A, why would you worry about failing. Dissapointed with this school, and if I could give that teacher a rating it would be a 0.
My daughter has been going here for the past 3 years this school is the worst. Since shes been enrolled here nothing but problems with the Teachers, Financial aid to ordering books shes needs. This is supposed to be her last semester & they call to her last minute to let her know she needs paper work in less then a week. Then they tell her financial aid no loner will cover so since Monday May 1st she hasnt been able to get in contact with the Financial advisor .. They keep giving her the run around from every person she calls. Save your money & financial aid & go else where. They cant say its her grades , currently her GPA is 3.0. Ms. Johnson is financial aid needs to do her job
Now she lost her appeal due to no one answering her calls.. I hate this school because of the stress they out there students through
This place has the worst communication ever. For months Ive been trying to get into a program and and get information from these people and no one ever answers the phone and when they do answer the phone they tell u they will call you back and never do. Then once I finally get into program a hour before the first class they cancel the whole program and is taking weeks to even get my money back. The most complicated people Ive ever met. I call back to see if maybe theres any more programs that I could sign up for they transfer me to a recruiter thats not even there and you leave a voicemail and never hear back from them. I wasted months and time going up there for it not to even happen
