Our daughters has been attending The Academy for four years. We use to adore this school and the family like atmosphere is had. It was a small family owned company and they ran it well. It has since been bought out by a corporates entity and none of the changes have benefited the students or families. It has lost the charm it once had along with a significant portion of its staff.
the ladies at the front desk use to know all the kids by name and say good morning and good night. The replacement staff do not bother to look up from the computer to say hello.
They have increased the cost of tuition, decreased the hours from 6:30-6:30 to 7:00-5:30. Added several additional holidays and in-service days they are closed for. Removed the 2 weeks of vacation credit that they have had for years. Yet added nothing, expect an electronic app I had to add to my phone to check in my child.
The only shining light and reason my daughter is still there is her amazing teachers and friends she has known for years.
After touring various daycares in the area, I like this one the best. The kids seemed engaged in their activity and the teachers were very attentive. My favorite part of this place was the indoor playground and dance room. This is important for when it’s cold out, the kids can still play inside. I believe the staff mentioned 2 snacks are provided but parents need to cover lunch. A couple questions I asked were about potty training and allergies. The teacher giving the tour was detailed in her answers and was able to tell fairly quickly that they have this under control. I think the only thing that I didn’t like as much was that a child was basking outside in the sun, while other kids were playing around her, nothing wrong with that, just hope she was wearing SPF 🙂
We’ve been with the Academy for over a year now. My preschool son is very happy there and received plenty of love. They keep him active and busy. My school age daughter does well there, too… they pick her up for after school care, which is really convenient. The place is much better suited for younger kids, but also works well for working families that need after school care. I wouldn’t go there for after school care alone. It’s also a beautiful location. All teachers we’ve encountered at the Academy have been friendly and professional. It’s not cheap but it works great for us.
