When I started looking at schools for my son in downtown Jersey City, I knew there were a lot of options. Like any parent, I was looking for a loving environment where I knew my child would be safe and given care and attention. Even though he was a baby at the time, I was looking for a school that could provide a real learning environment, not just childcare. Id heard great things about the Brunswick School and decided to take a tour and meet with Erin, the Director. I was immediately impressed with how she described the schools approach and curriculum for each age group. I could tell from that initial conversation that even in the infant classroom, the teachers are trained and encouraged to be thoughtful in how they provide care. We were beginning to introduce solids and so I was beyond thrilled to learn that the schools chef was creating organic purées for the infants. That may have sold me, knowing that each day my son would eat delicious, nutritious food prepared on site. My son has now been at the school for two years and hes thrived. At each age (young infant, older infant, young toddler, etc.), my son has been encouraged to explore, to love books, and to be creative. There is a real sense of family at the Brunswick School. All of my sons teachers have communicated openly with me about his progress and development, and through the Tadpoles app, we receive regular updates (photos and video). COVID forced the school to close in the spring of 2020, along with other schools across the country. When the Brunswick School reopened in July, they impressed me with their professionalism and focus on reducing risk for families and school staff. I know it wasnt easy for the school administration to close for an extended period of time. But I also know that when the school reopened, it was after the administration had taken the time necessary to plan. The school continues to impress me with their ability to maintain a sense of community, despite COVID. I know my child is in a safe place where proper protocols are followed, where the classrooms are active and engaging learning environments, and where the kids can socialize, safely. The food is still great – made at the school with organic, fresh ingredients. We receive the menu each month along with recipes, so that we know what our child is eating. I would certainly encourage any family looking for a high-quality school and care environment to explore the Brunswick School!
Our daughter (currently in Kindergarten) has had an EXCEPTIONAL experience at TBS. We have been connected to the community since she was in PreK-3 and she quickly grew to LOVE school. The staff, teachers, admin, physical space, classrooms, and families- we can’t love this community more. Our daughter has learned so much about life, kindness, taking care of the community, and learning to love her differences. TBS is fun, offers a diverse community, academically focused, and extremely warm & caring. There isn’t a request that goes overlooked, communication is excellent, and the attention to detail is unmatched. The staff genuinely care for the kids and their families. Our daughter feels safe at TBS, she feels free to learn at her pace and she not once complains about going to school. We will forever remember her initial years of schooling. A special thank you to Ms. Sabrina, Ms. Egypt, Mrs. Nelson, the Admissions Team, and the 189 & 187 Admin Team. Nothing more rewarding that seeing your kid run to see their teachers each and everyday. Thank you TBS for giving us such a fabulous few years of TBS culture. The Salley Family:)
My daughter went to the Brunswick for her PK-4 program. In Jersey city, this is probably the only school that keeps the kids ’til 7PM for working parents for $100 extra on top of the tuition.
The student body is well diversified, which I loved. There are many schools near and around the waterfront where I live and the students are homogenous (ie: Indian kids).
The quality of education at the Brunswick School is also great!! The teachers are passionate and disciplinarians. By the time, the kids graduate from their PK-4, the 5 year olds can read a book, write sentences and do single to double digit addition and subtraction. Of course, this varies depending on each child but still I thought this was a great way to prepare for the kindergarten!
A quick shout-out to Ms. Dawn, a PK4 teacher. She has previously taught at the rough part of Jersey City and I was glad to have her as my daughter’s teacher. She values education and strict when necessary and soft otherwise.
I am sending my daughter to a public school for K program (free) in September. Boy, do I wish I could keep her at the Brunswick!
