In those few weeks, her sign language and other communication skills regressed, and she developed an attitude problem. As parents, we were hardly allowed in the building or her room to pick her up or drop her off. As a result of the limited interaction, were unable to develop much of a relationship with her teachers. The person who met us at the door did not have any knowledge of her daily activities or how her day was. The Brightwheel app provides basic updates on meals, naps, diaper changes, but lacks the personal report and opportunity to connect with teachers and other staff members that we had at her other daycare. Likewise, we did not have an opportunity to see or know any of our daughter’s new friends. The TV in the classroom was on in the majority of photos/videos they sent throughout the day, and it seemed like each day was mostly a free for all, like a glorified babysitting class.
We also felt that the kids were confined to their highchairs way too often. They were put in them not just for meals and snacks, but during circle/learning times and during diapering of the entire class. During an introductory play session before our daughter started, we watched a sick boy bawl his eyes out in the high chair table for half an hour with little to no attention as he waited for his parents to pick him up. In the few weeks we were there, we never once got any coloring or art back because they never did any.
If you ask almost anyone in Fairfield, they will happily give a glowing recommendation of Farmhouse. I dont doubt that their curriculum is great for older students, but I feel like their toddler room needs some more attention. Ultimately, we decided this wasnt the daycare for our family because we wanted more structure and accountability for our daughter.
One of the few benefits was the proximity to the Fairfield neighborhood, and the price was about 25% less than her other daycare.
***Update: my daughter will now be attending elementary and I am actually sad that we wont be at Farmhouse. Ms. June was heaven sent and my daughter loved being in her class. The curriculum allowed my daughter to learn and have fun. They created so many arts and crafts which my daughter loved and I was always looking forward to see what she was coming home. Best Preschool ever!
