Im also disappointed with how the preschool teacher runs the class and speaks with the children. From her tone, lack of enthusiasm, and disheveled appearance, she lacks authority and often needs an assistant in the room to help with a class that has fewer than ten students. She becomes overwhelmed with normal toddler behavior and has even left the room crying. In their words shes easily defeated.
As the mother of one of the few Black children, I feel this school discriminates against little Black boys with big personalities and low-income families. Ive heard teachers introduce students as “another voucher kid” and adultify childlike behaviors. Recently, my son was going through a tantrum phase, and they were not supportive of him. my son is very articulate and physically bigger than the other 3yo, he was treated as though he was older, and they had different expectations of him for his age. After 0 incidents for at least 6 weeks, my son had 2 intense days, which resulted in me keeping him home to hone in on the behavior. After he was regulated, he returned to school. After another 6 weeks of 0 incidents, my son started exploring profanity despite my every effort to minimize his exposure to that language. After 1 intense day of him using the words and acting out (he snuck candy before school) while a new family was on tour, this administration has decided to disenroll my son from daycare, completely abandoning my family.
I think their decision was rooted in money versus the support of a childs development. They also have a 5 year old in the three year old classroom bc they rather the enrollment than to turn the family away since they dont even have a preK teacher set up. They didnt invest the proper resources into the preschool teacher and flat-out told me shes not equipped to deal with normal toddler behavior like a temper tantrum because she has to give the other students attention. Shed focus on setting up the activities longer than she spent helping each child learn how to properly hold a writing utensil. She admitted to letting my child do whatever he wants if she felt he was going to be upset, which ultimately puts him in danger, i.e., climbing cabinets to reach his snacks. Because she doesnt hone the skills to deescalate situations, my child has extended his frustration on other teachers who try to intervene, which isnt like him outside of this center or with other instructors or caregivers. Ive asked administration to give him more challenging work or to make sure hes engaged since he is advanced for his age by way of language and his physical abilities. Ultimately, theyve told me they cant support his growth or needs and left me hopeless. Again, this is after one incident in six weeks. And a day after the incident he was fine while Anwar was out and when she returned he had more intense interactions. So instead of getting rid of this teacher they removed my son.
In conclusion, while there were moments of joy for my son at this center, the overall experience has been deeply disappointing and frustrating. The lack of experienced staff, inadequate curriculum implementation, and the discriminatory treatment have left me defeated. I hope this review serves as a warning to other parents and encourages the administration to make the necessary changes to truly support all children.
Unlike the previous daycare, TLE-HK has welcomed my family with open arms, despite our moderate income. They have not discriminated against us in any way, and have made us feel valued and respected. This is the first time I’ve ever received any type of assistance, and I was nervous about how it would be perceived. But the team at TLE has handled it with grace and discretion, making me feel comfortable and grateful for their support.
I truly believe that God led me to TLE-HK, and I am so thankful for the love, care, and education they have provided to my child. After 8 months, I can confidently say that this daycare has exceeded my expectations in every way. The difference is night and day! My child is thriving, and I finally have peace of mind throughout the day.
My child is extremely inquisitive and loves to be involved in everything, and the staff at Hell’s Kitchen have been incredibly supportive of the curiosity. They encourage my child’s natural desire to learn and explore, and provide a nurturing environment that fosters growth and development.
I’ve also been impressed with how the staff have handled moments when my child got a bit too rough during playtime. They’ve been able to redirect the energy and teach valuable lessons about boundaries and empathy.
The curriculum is engaging, the facility is clean and safe, and the communication is open and transparent. I’m impressed by the attention to detail and the extra mile the staff goes to ensure each child feels valued and supported.
I’m so grateful to have found a place where my child can thrive, and I can have peace of mind knowing they’re in good hands. TLE-HK has exceeded my expectations in every way, and I can’t recommend it enough to families seeking a trustworthy and enriching environment for their little ones.
Thank you, TLE-HK, for providing my child with an exceptional early learning experience, and for treating my family with dignity and respect. You are a shining example of what quality childcare should look like, and I am so grateful to have found you!
