Totteridge Academy is the Number 1 school in the borough of Barnet 2022 (for improvement). Walking around TTA, there are some hints of the old school… but… today, this AMAZING school is a far cry from those Ravenscroft School days. The new head, Mr Fairbairn, has transformed the teaching and learning attitudes and achievements at Totteridge Academy.
Last night, we attended the Annual Evening of Excellence, with an electirc atmosphere in the old hall. Mr. Fairbairn and George Lamb ( from GROW) did their speeches and introductions with positive and inspirational vibes.
We all felt very proud of our children and the school.
Thank you, Mr Fairbairn, George, Miss Steel and all the teachers and staff. We appreciate every thing you do. As a parent, I give you this 5-star review as a RECOGNITION from all of us!!
My child loves the atmosphere in TTA. She has a feeling of security, community, support and friendship. The work is hard, the expectation is high, but the support is second to none.
She feels part of the TTA family, which is very apparent when you visit… so book that personal visit and put TTA as your first choice for year 7, or 6th form.. and see how this school has changed.
Where else are you going to find a headteacher that remembers everybody’s names, where the year 11s are going for sixth form, and what the kids’ interests are? Mr Fairbairn has drastically improved this school by simply deciding to be an active headteacher, not giving kids excuses to do nothing, and ensuring everyone is learning.
External cover teachers were rare during my time there. Mr Fairbairn even covered my physics class while they attempted to find a new physics teacher for my GCSE class.
I joined in year 10. During my first GCSE art class, he took the time out to come up to me, greet me, talk to me about why I chose TTA, and even asked how my brother, who had left for sixth form at the time, was.
This is just Mr Fairbairn. I won’t even go on about the rest of the staff with how supportive, how caring, and how professional they all are. You have teachers like Mrs Palmer who has been at the school for decades and still has an absolute love for teaching and drive to inspire.
There’s a misconception that the school is a hotpot for crime and where all the misbehaved kids go, but trust me, this is not tolerated by the staff and is not true in the slightest.
Thank you for supporting me, TTA.
fast forward 2020: really missing the staff at tta, they were the sunshine on my gloomy days, i miss the interaction and how enthusiastic they are, PLEASE AS AN EX YEAR 11 STUDENT, DO CHOSE THIS SECONDARY FOR YOUR CHILD TO ATTEND! MR FAIRBAIRN HAS DONE AN INCREDIBLE JOB AND THIS SCHOOL LIKE I SAID HAS CHANGED FOR THE GOOD, back when i was in year 7, we had a different head teacher- 2 infact, but by year 8, mr fairbairn helped make tta a really good school honestly!!
