Terrible experience. No concern for customer service. Walked in with my son to get him a cut. It was my First time in this barbershop. Was spoken to by NO ONE…wasn’t asked how I could be helped or anything. Ok, fine. Maybe that’s how men working in some barbershops handle things. I don’t know. Since no one spoke I assumed that all was walk-in service and someone would get to us when they finished, but then I noticed that there were a couple of barbers just standing around. One walked to the back. I overheard another customer speaking with one of the barbers who was cutting and heard something about an appointment. So I approached the barber who wasn’t cutting anyone’s hair at that moment and I asked him how did things work in there, do they take walk-ins or is it appointment based. He told me he took appointments but he asked where the other barber went. Apparently he didn’t even know the guy’s name. So the other guy comes. He cuts my son’s hair. Cut is ok. I handed him a $20 and he asks if I needed change back. I said yes, how much is it because he hadn’t told me a price and I hadn’t noticed prices posted anywhere. (Prices may be posted but I didn’t see it.) He says $14 but needed to step outside to go to another store to get change. I follow him outside and when he comes back out he asks how much did I want back. At that point I felt like I was being pressured to leave a tip. I was frustrated with being asked more than once about getting change back so I just told him to keep it and walked off. I have never in all the years of taking my son to get his haircut experienced that. First off, if I don’t say keep it all from the beginning, yes, I am expecting change back. Number two, why would you ask me how much I want back?!? Give me the change I’m due back and if I would like to hand a certain amount back as a tip I will determine the amount and give it back to you. I have always seen it handled like this in the barbershops Ive gone to in the past. $14 is the highest price I’ve ever been charged for a 9 year old to get his haircut…on top of that ended up paying $20 because this man wants to hold my change as ransom….terrible…he had “academy” on his smock so maybe he was a student…I’m not sure. Being that no one in the barbershop opened their mouths to offer help I wasn’t sure what was what. I noticed “manager” on one barber’s smock but not one word was spoken by him. I’m guessing that majority of the barbers in there have a steady customer base and don’t really care about tending to any new clientele that comes in. They seem to be use to regulars who already know how “everything goes.”
I highly recommend to go see the student name Ashley, her station is on the left side once you walk in across from the register counter. Ashley did a phenomenal job considering that my hair cut is very detailed. I gave her my trust to take care of me. She is very friendly, professional, respectful, and also very comforting to chat with while I got a haircut. 99% of time time I almost “NEVER” give a review. Ashley deserves to be recognized for her hard work. If you need a hair cut, I highly recommend to go see Ashley. She was “AMAZING”! If it were not for me leaving VA, I would of definitely made her my new personal barber. I am extremely picky with my hair, but Ashley was able to meet my expectations. I have “ZERO” complaints. Considering she is just a student in training, she is off to an incredible head start towards her future as a Barber/Cosmetologist.
Thank you Ashley for my hair cut. I was very satisfied and impressed that’s for sure!
