In the beginning of the practical nursing program, Melanie told all of the students that if they had an issue with her then it was something that they need to deal with on their own. If they had an issue with her they need to come straight to her, if they didn’t they could “get over it”.
She has been shrewd, intimidating and biased against students with physical disabilities and those who don’t quite fit into her idea of how person should be. She’s has bragged to professional during clinicals of how she wants people to drop out. She feels she is “not paid to hold their hand, or give students validation.

I’ve seen this first hand as I live with a student that has been meeting the deadlines and performing very well but because she has a disability, Melanie has it in her mind that the student won’t be a good nurse and is looking for every opportunity to fail her.

This is not a good instructor. The other instructors at this college are wonderful mentors and support their students. Melanie looks for opportunities to break them down and tell them verbally to their face that they should just drop out.

This program is a lot of money. This program is a full-time job plus at least 60 hours a week studying. The T- Tech practical nursing program instructor should NOT discriminate and seek to destroy a person based on their physical mobility challenges. I know the student is putting in the time, the dedication and the hard work getting the passing grades; but, being failed on assignment and assessments. they shouldn’t be told to drop out.
A student shouldn’t be talked down to or belittled in front of others while they’re doing their clinicals. A student shouldn’t be failed for over looking a question on a lengthy assessment. That’s what this instructor does and she shouldn’t be there.

I would not recommend this school to anyone. Although the programs may be good the administration is not. I interviewed for a position with tooele tech and was personally asked by Mark Aiken how do I deal with conflict in the classroom. I had explained my methods and that the students are not only training for a certificate or license but for an adult career path. There will be people you do not like and you will need to be professional and work with them anyhow. I was congratulated on my response and how align it was with their goals of the program. I was offered the position and when a student cane forward with a hear say disliking Mark Aiken personally declined his offer to me. I was not only disappointed as I was looking forward to starting at the facility but more disappointed that Mark values revenue over integrity at this facility. Id like to be associated with a better company and surround myself with better people than that.
My over all experience wasn’t bad at the salon.
But I did leave disappointed and feeling down on myself; the instructor who was helping my main girl seemed to careless if I was getting what I asked for or not. On at least four accounts one of the girls who stepped in to help my main girl made a comment that made me as the client pretty uncomfortable for her to be working on my hair. In the end, I was rushed out because I was scheduled poorly and with hair I didn’t want to leave with.
