The teachers seem to care when engaged by parents, but the quality of my children’s education is shameful. My daughter and many of her friends, all smart kids with good grades, can’t discourse well on the subjects they study, and often tell stories about teachers who ‘pass out worksheets and then go play solitaire on the computer’.

No-one uses textbooks and the syllabi are what we used to call a course outline, and are too general to empower parents to know what’s going on.

Very few teachers use the online system to it’s potential so it can be hard to get any picture of how your child is progressing. Some of the teachers don’t update gradebooks online until midterms or respond to emails sent through the online system at all.

And this is American public school education at its finest, supposedly.

We’ve been in the area for 5 years now, and I’m thoroughly unimpressed. I now understand that the immense popularity of private schools in the Baltimore area isn’t just because of city schools.

I have a really good friend. He’s much younger than me. I am sad to know he had a very bad experience at this school. He was bullied to the point it got physical. The school knew about it and did they do anything to help? No. And that really bothers me because I work at a school. I am a paraprofessional for kids from k-8th graders and my priorities are to keep the kids safe and feel comfortable. Now this specific friend of mine is very traumatized and his GPA was effected because of this. It’s hard to imagine if he was bullied there, how many other young teens may be bullied there as well. I honestly don’t think his grades should have been held against him because it’s not his fault people were mean and careless in that school. I’m very disappointed to hear such story. If I had children of my own,I won’t feel safe taking them there.
Some teachers are truly devoted to their jobs. They should recieve more praise than the faculty members whom in which can’t seem to keep up with their workload. Not only are they lagging behind on the duties that they were TRUSTED to keep up with, but communication with counselors and administration hasn’t been well at all within the past few years. Seriously. Hire more staff members or accept less students. The population has surged in this school and the faculty isn’t keeping up. Good programs and education, but the people who run this place really need to step up their performance. Perhaps hire a new principal who’ll respond to their e-mails like the ones hired before 2013.
