Came here entering as a 9th Grade Freshman in September of 2013 and currently a 12th Grade Senior and amongst the graduating class of June of 2017. Honestly, Transit Tech H.S. is a great trade and technical high school to really achieve the necessities to pursue aspiring careers with the NYC Transit Authority. Greatest choice I ever made to succeed, learn and grasp a lot of information here at my school. That’s only the good side but unfortunately, some students here feel it’s so-called “OK” to fall with the okey-doke and not take advantage of how FREE education comes ONCE in a lifetime for these scholars. The frequent disrespect to teachers and the constant “gay” and sexual harrasment remarks that comes from the mouths of these students just puts a negative look on the school and also depicts the position of how these students set themselves as the “HANDout” instead of being the “STANDout”. And it’s not only this, it’s also bullying, the redundancy of students not putting their cellular phones away in their classes but having it out when they feel like it just because they think “they got it like that” and etc. And if you’re currently a NYC School student or used to be then you ought to get the picture by now. It’s a process for sure but I’m hoping change can come into play one day.
I graduated here in 2011. Not going to lie, this was not an easy school to go to. Metal detectors everyday, no phones, I saw a lot of students get bullied, very little support from staff (some will help you if they think you have potential or if they like you), lots of favoritism and drama from some people .Overall, it was not an encouraging environment. Also, the gender ratio is about 80% males so lots of raging testosterone, fighting, peer pressure, gang activity. As a girl, just know that you will be noticed and not in a pleasurable way at times.

It was a typical high school experience with lots of bad apples. The good apples made it worthwhile. Still have friends from here, 10 years later.

Many teachers expected the worst from you even if you made it to the honor roll. Negative self fulfilling prophecies here. Saw many students selling drugs as well.

I was able to get into NYU and Baruch so it is not impossible to succeed from here. Sometimes I wish I went to a more calmer school but such is life. The gem teachers there were Ms. McDonald, Ms. Joseph, Ms. Applebaum, Ms. Charlton, Ms. Thomas, Mr. O’Brien, Mr. Redlein, Mr. Skurnik, Mr. Barbieri, and the teacher for Conflict Resolution. Thanks a lot.

The school took our phones the minute we step foot in the building and they gave us paper phone tickets with a number which can easily be lost. Also working online is harder now due to lack of devices available to students. At the end of each school day there is a crowd of students waiting up to 30+ minutes just to get their phone back and it’s gonna happen every single day. Instead they should have let she student keep the phones off in their bags or remove the usless to all together. It impacts the students and makes leaving the building more of a hassle as entering the building. And because of this students will also be held up on lines for students giving in their phones thus making them late to their first class of the day. Whoever thought this rule would help anybody need to drop this dumb rule all together so students can be happier while in school.
