I thought I wrote a review for this school previously. I apologize if I’ve duplicated it, somehow.
My first day at this school, I nearly walked out in disgust. I have to say, yes, the principal has probably made some strides in making this school better than it was (I have no frame of reference, only hearsay from those that used to know), but as I sat in the cafeteria, with the exuberant children, nothing could prepare me for the horror that I witnessed. The very principal that was purported to have made the school better was yelling at the children?! I am sure they get enough of that at home from the parents. They need to come to school, and feel safe to get an education, to be loved in a way they may not get at home. A lot of the children at TT come from difficult homes, and need stability. I am sure the programs are helping, but yelling at them, “This is why you are the bottom school in the county!” is not encouraging. I immediately approached the guidance counselor, who to my amazement, defended this guy, and said that there was nothing she could do about it, because she didn’t want to lose her job. I left after one semester. I rate the school three stars, because I believe that the programs, but not all the educators, are doing a marvelous job for helping the kids learn. I taught in first grade, and anybody who knows, knows those are some impressionable children. They were mostly at a level that shocked me. I do not remember being that intelligent, or learning at the level they were at, when I was in first grade.
Overall, if you live in the zone for this school, see if you can take your children to South Daytona, home-school, or another school. At least until they remove the principal, or he offers a public apology to the county and helps make TT what I know he believes it can become. I think everybody can change, with the right encouragement. Show us what good education is like! You can do it.
The best school for my children because the teachers and principal take time with all the students to know them and help them in a bigger and better way. The parents are more involved and that’s a BLESSING to see.
The Teachers’ here really care and strive for the kids to be successful. They come up with so many different strategies and events to keep not only the students involved, but the parents involved as well.
