DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILDREN HERE!!! The sub for the travel and tourism/hospitality class and office woman Vera violated my daughter’s 504 plan, the ADA and HIPPA laws by discussing my daughter’s medical condition in front of other students, making derogatory remarks about her and downplaying her symptoms. When I called to discuss the issue with the principal, she was more concerned with the volume of my voice and her feeling disrespected (I never cursed or called any names) than doing her job of protecting the students and providing a safe learning environment and HUNG UP ON ME! They use the students in the class as slave labor having them decorate for different banquets and the open house and refuse to use the AC in the room because the sub’s comfort is more important than the health and safety of the students. Ms. Franklin did attempt to contact me;however, there was no response or apology when i made her aware of the violation of 504 and ADA. I assume they only try to do damage control to keep their enrollment numbers up for government funding and once they are aware a student will not be returning they don’t care. I will be reporting all parties involved to the school board and have every right to seek legal action.
I’ve been teaching at this school going on 5 years and to say it’s a “one of a kind” school is an understatement. I’ve visited many career tech centers all over the state including one in Georgia and our facilities are top of the line in comparison. Every visitor to our school is amazed by all thats in the building and the most common thing I hear is, “I never knew all this was in here.” So if you haventhe chance to visit or send a student to take one of our many courses, they won’t regret it.
TCTA is a great institution. They’re leading the efforts for technical career training in Tuscaloosa.
