I few weeks ago I got a called from the vice principal from RFK UCLA Community School telling me that my son will not be going back to their middle school this upcoming fall due to the teachers contract of not wanting more students in their classroom. 13 students arent returning to school for fall.
I was given the why., I just think that this isnt fair for him. I was distraught and confused. I was upset not angry at first. I was told that he could returned to High School for 9th grade. We live 2 blocks from the school. The Vice Principal said the he will have to attend his home middle school which is about 12 blocks further.
Most of his first year he was home like most kids doing online classes because of Covid. Almost at the end of the school year when the restrictions were lifted he attended the campus for the first time. He was very excited to go make new friends and socialize after being home.
When he came to us and asks us why cant attend the 8th grade with friends as if he did was getting punished for something that he hasnt done .
The idea of my son feeling rejected was heart breaking for us ,because the classes are too crowded and teachers refusing to take an extra student or 2 in their classroom.
He had just made some friends and now he has to go another school for his last year and start all over. How does this affect a kid?
I am not happy with the actions the school had taken of removing my son from attending school next year and to graduate the 8th grade with his fellow friends and classmates. I am hopeful something may change that I get a call saying that he will be able to go back.
