All of our 4th grade students participated in designing and creating media center makerspace learning stations for our school. Once they created the stations, they wrote, tested and edited “how-to” and “expectation” signs to be displayed with each station. The 5th graders then participated in these stations and connected the centers to K-5 standard course of study objectives and the 4Cs of learning (creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, communication). Now the students market and advocate for these stations to teachers throughout the school. We also open the media maker stations to classes during indoor recess days. These are truly learning stations created BY students, FOR students and they directly align to the curriculum.

Our son just started his third year attending Underwood elementary school. I can’t express how much they have done for him and how much we appreciate the teachers and staff there. The teachers and staff are very attentive to the students and communicate well with the parents, which in turn fosters a very active parenting involvement in volunteer support. We feel very fortunate that our child is attending this nurturing learning environment.
